I am a big deer hunter and have a 100 acre lease in Washington Parish I deer hunt on. Next year I intend to try a little duck hunting on the property and am hoping someone will be able to grant me a few pointers. On the property we have a creek that runs through the property, as well as about a five acre wooded swamp. I have seen a lot of ducks over the years on the creek, but the problem is that the creek is pretty narrow. We also have two twenty acre fields on the property as well that I could possibly plant corn or rice on. Any advice would be appreciated as to what my best bet would be to drop a few birds next year. Thanks guys!

Couple things you could do is scout now and spring to see type ducks and determine roosting/flight patterns. If you can create a small pond/hole by moving dirt or blocking, damming drainage-that may create a larger water hole. Cut some trees in a small area along creek to open a space to look like pond area. Set up nesting boxes to keep/increase wd population. Create a small pond nearby in field -allow grass to grow or plant a grass/grain then flood close to teal season (flood in spring for woodies then drain for summer to allow grass to grow in). These are some things I did on a small piece of property and had success. Just suggestions no guarentees. Good luck. Saw you mentioned swamp-clear small area if have trees or button brush in it. Leave trees down as perches for woodies.

If you're going to plant you'll have to able to flood that field. I would start with just hunting what you already have flooded. If you have ducks don't try to do too much. They like something in there so if you go in and cut down trees or something you might screw it up. JUST DONT HUNT IT TOO MUCH. On a small place like that over hunting will ruin it.
If you think adding that field would help and you can build levees and pump water go for it. But if youre in a location that doesnt have a lot of ducks moving through the area it may not be worth the money.
