What do you people think is the best shell, shot size, oz. of shot, and if it is like hevi shot or steel or somthing like that.

For Giant CA geese, T is deadly. For Greaters, BBB works well. For lessors BB works well. All this is for steel, and make sure you get the High Velocity loads (over 1450fps). Some guys like to use 1 size smaller shot than what I like to use.

Over the decoys- Improved cyl, skirting the decoys Mod and longer shoots Imp Mod should work for you.

Hevi shot is deadly on geese - even giant geese, but is expensive. You better be a good shot or your pocket book will be a hurting.

As for size of shell, I use 3.5", but use the biggest shells your gun can safely handle so you have a bigger HV payload for a better pattern density.

Early in the year on ducks I like to use steel 3" 2 shot with improved cylinder. Later in the year when the ducks get "thicker" I switch to 3" BB shot. As for geese I never shoot anything smaller than BB. I've done pretty well just using 3", but I've had good luck with 3.5" as well. Regular ol' 3" is my preference, though, because its always at least 5 bucks cheaper....

oh yeah...I never shoot that other stuff like hevi-shot and tungstin...don't like the idea of blowing $1.40 a shot just for ducks. The only time I spend that much is when I'm going after somthing with four legs and a 10 point rack!!! :thumbsup:

I like to shoot 3" BB 1-3/8 and 3-1/2 BB 1-9/16 for early goose season later geese i like 3-1/2 BBB and for ducks i shoot 3" 2's in 1-1/4 or 3/8 and for later ducks i will prolly shoot 1-3/8 3-1/2" of that fast steel thats pretty much all i shoot and maybe some dryloks.

for geese at any range i normally recomend a 3 1/2" BBB with a modified choke just because a full is too much when the geese are in close and a improved cylinder is too wide when there long range. I recomend using a heavy and high velocity shot.

I had good luck in the early season with 3 1/2" BBB 1550 fps. It felt like a cannon shooting in a tshirt but reached out to 40+ yards and folded a couple geese.

HI All

After shooting steel for 10 yrs,I am all but going to leave it for Hevi-shot---1 1/8 oz and 2 3/4 shells are about as deadly as can imagine.

How many times large Canada geese have flown over head and you hear the pellets hitting them--but onward they fly!This does not happen with the hevi-shot reloads.

During our early goose season,10 shots 10 geese---fast acting and no cripples.

Even at the cost--try it and I am sure you will be a believer!
