Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has built a blind for their canoe? I did alot of my hunting out of my oldtown this year and would love to build or buy a blind for it for next year. Anyone have any ideas or pics they could post?

Also does anyone have any comments on that canoe blind/cover that cabelas sells for $100?

Thank you Everyone

I saw this one in ducks unlimited . It is very stable you can even stand to shoot if you are in 4ft or less h2o . I used green treated lumber. Take a 2x4 lay it across the gunnel trace a line so when cut this board will fit tightly in the area about 2ft back from the bow now take another 2x4 that when layed on top of this one would stick out about2ft on each side of the canoe screw them together with wood screws . You now have a board that when layed across the front of the boat will fit snugly attach it to the gunnel with a Lg C clamp on each side. Using a hole saw or spade bit drill a1 1/2" hole in each end( right and left side )of this out rigger piece to hold the vertical blind support (closet rod) take an 8ft closet rod 1 1/2" in diameter push it down through the hole into themud on right and left sides of the boat do the same in the stern. You now have 4 vertical poles in the mud connect R and L bow poles tightly with rubber bungees and same with the stern camo can be hung from these poles. The poles bent by the bungees make this very stable. when paddling to your spot you just lay the closet rods on the outrigger cross pieces and hold them on with those same bungees. I hunted out of this rig for years the only problem is if you need the boat to chase a cripple it takes 5 minutes to pull the poles out of the bottom and roll up your camo net. I hope this helps I'm not computerwise able to do pictures

I glue a long stripe of velcom across the gunnel. I have 2 sets of canvas (OD and max 4) cut to the shape of the canoe in 3 pieces. I just valcro them on.

On the outside of the canvas I sewed on some loops with webbing, and i cut some grass around where i stop and stuff them in the loop.

Throw some more canvas on the outboard and I'm done!!

Same dilemma here. I have a 12'9" square stern designed for hunting.

I have been pondering different ideas for a blind and also dog platform (she gets too much water in the canoe after a retrieve). So far I am leaning towards that cabela's canoe cover and some burlap, with some bungee cord rigged along the outside for placing grass and stuff in it. I want to rig a layout blind seat as well, so that I can get lower in the canoe.

Basically I want it to look like this but with grass sticking up, me on the bottom of the canoe, and a dog platform:

For the dog platform I am not sure yet (this popped into my head recently). I have thought about outriggers or attaching it to the square stern. Any ideas?

I am also going to make this two anchor system so that I can stay put if the wind starts kicking up:

Let me know what you guys think...I would like to get this started before I leave for x-mas. This way I could be hunting in it when the ducks/geese get down here in the 2nd/3rd seasons.

Thanks,

I rig up 2 sections of pipes with holes drilled in them. So i can extend the sections out and jam it in the mud. The 2 sections are held together with a pin.

These poles ( I made 2 sets) are jammed into the marsh bottom through 2 u bolts i put on the outside of the canoe gunnels.

how about a 2x4 strapped across the boat and 6" PVC toubes capped on each end. You extend them just low enough to be just over the water. Make some kind of quick release for it incase you have to case a duck. Then just lay down and pull fabric over you.

This will pull up easier and be just as safe. You can even paddle with it as long as there are no trees and stuff to hang it up on.
