I am new to the northern Illinios area and I was looking at the Chain O' Lakes region on a map and was curious about hunting there. Are these lakes open to hunting. From the map they looked they were right in among towns. Any information on this regions would be helpful. Thanks.

Yeah I have looked it up. So you cant hunt anywhere except from a blind location? The blind locations are on Grass Lake and a small portion of Nipersink Lake and Fox Lake. Are those the only locations you can hunt? There are many more lakes in the Chain that arent part of the Illinois Wildlife area. Can you legally hunt on those? And there is alot of Fox Lake and Nipersink lake that dont have blinds. Can you legally hunt there?

Yes you can. Look up www.foxwaterway.org Being that the season starts this weekend you would need a boat blind.

Ok I do see this statement in there. "The only blinds not requiring registration with the Agency are land blinds (no part of the blind may be in the water at any time) or hunters who wish to hunt from their boat" I take that to mean that I can hunt anywhere on the lake so long as I am in my boat or from a blind not touching any water and not in an area posted no hunting.

Most of the land around the lakes will be privately owned.

grasslake you can hunt from the designated blinds only,, all other lakes the blinds are through foxwaterway agency (have to go to meetings to get one, they are private blinds) you can not hunt any of the islands without landowners permission all islands on the chain are private property and some have houses on them. you can hunt any lake except grass lake with a boat blind and must follow the rules..anchor down..yardage from houses and other hunters ect... i know this cus i live on foxlake and have 4 foxwaterway blinds and one of the islands. if you live out of town ur best bet is to go for the first come first serve blinds on grasslake. if you come on lets say foxlake and set up ur boat in a spot that looks good to you, you might have someone kicken you out of that spot cus alot of us who get the foxwaterway permit do not build blinds every year we hunt from boatblinds. go to next seasons waterway meeting and draw all the private blinds onto a map and you will know whrer and were not to set up.

Anyone have map of private blinds for Fox lake? I have a boat blind and really don't wanna waste my time getting kicked out of a spot and annoying the blind holders there. And as for Grass lake, I'd rather sit in my boat and birdwatch then deal with that circus.
