i am going to start hunting a field and would like to know your opinions on the cheapest mallard full bodies or shells you can possibly find of course quality would be nice but quantity better any help guys is greatly appreciated thanks

Im looking at these collapsible full body things theyre really cheap and from reviews look good give me your advice also how many to i need to set out in a cut soy bean field?

Hey man the collapsible ones you are talking about are probably the ones made by sport plast. I bought them when i was in high school about 4 years ago and i was low and cash. They get you by but after a while they start to crack and split. And if you hunt frozen ground like i do the stake system sucks. All i can recommend is save your money and either get some Greenhead gear full bodies or some G&H field shells. The field shells may be a little better off for you if you dont want to spend the high dollar. They look pretty good are durable is hell and will last you forever. The greenhead gear full bodies look amazing and they are ok for durability i recommend you buy a slotted bag.

My advice is buy the best you can right now. Trust me if you go cheap your first time your going to be buying something better three or four years down the road. I have done it a 100 times with my waterfowling gear.

I agree with the previous poster as to buying the best that you can. You may want to use your water dekes for now until you can save up a little more cash. Our season has ended and you wouldn't believe the deals that were on craigslist as well as retailers. Just keep you eyes open, you will find a deal.

what do you mean water deeks like cutting keels off

I have done it and it usually works fine. Don't ask me how but we normally manage about five duck decoys that we normally sink a year haha. So we just take them out of the water and cut the keels off. They make a decent field decoy then. I have also left the keels on and thrown them into the field. They work ok too but sometimes if the ground is frozen the keel will make the decoy sit cockeyed.

Agree with turning floaters into shells. If you cant afford the real deal that is a good option. Normally in fields you dont need that many decoys. I usually just put out about a dozen in my goose spread and a mojo or 2 and they suck right in.
Buy some hot buys that are like $30 a dozen and just cut the keels off! :thumbsup:

You can get 50 wind sock geese for 35 bucks. They come with wooden stakes too. I either saw them on cabelas or bass pro. Great reviews. So spend 35 on them and give me the 3 dozen hot buy Mallard decoys I saved you from cutting the keels off and we can call it even.

as mentioned above, go find greenhead gear hot buy decoys. they are around 50 bucks a dozen, but still look like the high dollar ones. then just cut the keels off. i have these floaters, but im keeping them floaters

if a sportin goods store around you carries the tanglefree deks that are 20 bucks a doz., get them. i use a dozen of them and about 2 dozen that sunk on me durring the season with cut off keels. its the cheapest, most effective way to field hunt IMO, and that way u can use good lookin deks that have holes in them. if you want them to sit higher in corn or somethin just drill a holw in the bottom and use 1/4 in wood doles.....very effective

You should take a look at Eberhart Decoys. Their fullbodys are only $100 a dozen, but they are resters only. They`ve also come out with Mallard floaters that are kind of like the Flambeau pontoon style keel, so you could use them on land or sea. I use their fullbodys, and they worked great. Haven`t bought any floaters yet, but thinking about it, mainly because they`re Made in the USA!

Few weeks ago someone said that they went to the park and took a thousand pics of different position. Blew them up on there computer. Print at staples, zerox at kinkos. Then attach a stake.... add those siloettes to ur hack job floater and u oughta have a full feild

I just take my dz flambeau floaters and make them into field decoys by drilling a hole in the neck to come out just in front of the chest and run i foot spikes thru them and stake them down. they can still float

I lived and hunted in montana for 8 years and we would kill limits of mallards over harvested alfalfa fields using are water decoys we would just find a good big patch were we could set the keels right down in the main plant roots we had 2 hunts last year where we had 4 limits of mallards in 45 minutes, thats alot of shootin. It also depends on the hunting pressure and where your at. i live in utah now and there is no way in he]] that would work down here now. Just my two cents
