So this is going to be my first year that I'll attempt to target divers specifically later this season using longlines. Do y'all like a tighter choke at 20 yards or one opening up already at 20 that means 40 yard patterns being non existent?

I don't have much experience with divers other than the few that have decoyed into my puddle duck spreads. I patterned the new gun and don't know what kinds of shots are typically presented, so I'm not sure what to go with.

I would go with the Modified like stated, I shoot a Light Mod in my O/U as the lead shot and modified as the 2nd shot, works good for me.

I mostly shoot divers on the bigger waters I hunt. I run a modified factory choke and throw 2-4 shot. I like a 1550 FPS load because most my shots are 30 or greater. I tend to do as good as I want to with that set up.

Usually modified, #4 or 5 bismuth. I will always have a full at the ready and will often change out if the birds are working a bit further, later in the season etc. I like solid hits, and dead birds. Issue with divers is just that….they dive, and most hunting occurs on big water. Crippled divers can be an absolute pain, especially when you hunt solo and have to drive the boat and man a gun….and a dog can only do so much.

Personally I like tight chokes, like the Patternmaster Code Black and Kicks HF Full. But a lot of my hunting is done on huge coastal rivers and sounds. If I’m hunting over swamps or creeks or marshes where the ducks will be in closer I usually go to Light Modified.
