There aren't many of us in here so let's introduce ourselves.
I'm Cort from Louisville, age 28, married with kids. The more duck hunters each of us know, the more hunting spots we can get from each other. Maybe a life-long hunting partner is right down the street. I'm tired of fighting 20 guys on the Ohio River for 50 ducks every year. Where do you guys hunt? Do you do well? Maybe one day we will be in the blind together telling duck hunting lies, you never know.

hi, i'm cody a new member to this chat. i'm from N. Ky and we mostly hunt the ohio river near the mehldal dam. last season we killed 21 birds.

Good for you Cody, glad someone decided to post up. Welcome aboard. Not exactly sure where the dam is but I've been trying to get up around Carolton Co. for sometime now. I never went because everytime I drove up to scout the ducks where all gone. issed: I do all my hunting on farm ponds in shelby co. and on the ohio towards Louisville. What kind of species are you wackin up there?

the dam is about 40mins east of Cincinnati driving time. we shoot greenheads and honkers and woodies in the early part of the winter. we also see a few divers. my dad shot a nice bull can, which was mounted. we also killed redheads, blubills and blacks. how about you down there? can't wait for the early seasons to start.

on our farm in shelby co. as well as the Louisville part of the river we mostly shoot mallards. Our woody season is really good, and we crush the Canadas all season long. Our farm pond has seen every type of puddler you would expect to see east of the mississippi. We have been fortunate enough to see but not harvest bluebills, redheads, canvasbacks, ringnecks and even a merganser on our little 2 acre pond. This is where I spend most of my time for convenience sake. It's 20 minutes from my front door. We have an aerator that keeps our place from freezing up, so when it gets really cold we do fairly well as we are the only open water around. My Ohio River hunting is probably over unless I get an invite somewhere as I have sold my boat. The compition down here in Lou. is brutal. I got out and in the water once last year by 3:45 a.m. and someone was in my spot. That just about did it for me. 25 boats fightin over 5 or 6 prime spots, no thanks. Not to mention that I've somehow managed not to kill myself out there.....it is unbeliveably dangerous.

our river hunting is the same. we don't have a boat but a shore blind. there are blinds about 200 - 300 yards from us up and down the river. our wood duck season is very good, we hunt a beaver pond of the creek. do u have a blind on the pond u hunt or do u wade it? how many birds do u kill down there?

Hey my name Scott and I'm 25 years old, single, no kids just a 8-month old chocolate lab named Trigger. I hunt anywhere everywhere the birds are. Around home I hunt mostly the river and the back waters of it. I take a trip yearly to Texas to free lance and that's about it. I grew up waterfowl hunting as my fatyher was guide for many years and I also tried it for a while. I got tired of babysitting rich men that didn't know what a duck was. That's my story.

Hey everyone-
I'm new to the Louisville area from Wisconsin. This will be my first season in KY and I'm lost as to where to begin looking for places to hunt. I do not have a boat down here so I'm a little limited and would appreciate any advice you all could give me. I'd like to begin to scout different area the next couple weekends.

When we hunted down at the Sloughs it was great. We usually went down there in September and did some Wood duck hunting. We would go back down there starting around Thanksgiving and hunted green heads and geese. We also used to lease a goose pit down in the river bottoms but we don't have it anymore. :smile:

Hvac, you ever consider crossing the river for some ducks? I'm about 25 mi. north of the Ohio.

The farthest north I've hunted has been the Indiana side of the Ohio. Don't know where to go your way. Don't know any duck hunters in IN either. Have dog, will travel, though!

Don't know any Chessie breeders around here. Got mine from this guy. www.sorensonretrievers.com Deuce flew in from Minnesota. While expensive, you can be assured of tremendous quality in the bloodlines.

There were no apparent effects of the flight as far as I could see. Just make sure to do your homework and check references. Temperament is what you should be inquiring about from people who have bought from whatever breeder you choose.
