Well, I went up to Mercer for that controlled hunt yesterday. Came home with nothing. They have really nice set ups, but all the birds are just eye candy across the road. I would guess we saw about 5,000 geese and about 2,000 ducks flying into the corn over in the sanctuary. The guys about 500 yards to our right limited out, but had big spreads, and could call well. We only had one lone goose come into our spread, of course dad missed the shot! All in all, I would say if the weather would have been more favorable we may have had more birds come our way. It was def, a great chance to get out of the house, and we had a great view of ALL of those geese landing in that corn field sanctuary all day! LOL May go out Saturday if the weather forecast changes.

I've done a couple and it's like eveything else hunting related - all about timing. We passed on a marsh hunt I drew this year simply because it was still so warm on that date and the only birds around the area were locals who had been beaten to death. It really is a lottery in more sense than one.

I got lucky enough to go to Mercer, Magee, and Ottawa this year. Ottawa was a rot fest, Magee we shot 4 hooded mergs and a mallard, and at Mercer we got one goose. Of all of them Mercer by far blows them away with the setup. Some of the best blinds you'll hunt out of.
