Hey y'all. My wife and I are looking for cities to relocate to for our medical residency. Unfortunately we will be a little limited as she is a year ahead of me so she has to get into somewhere, and them I'm stuck doing everything I can to get into a program in the same area. We also have to find places with realistic programs, as scores determine a lot of where you end up. Anyways, we came across Omaha as a potential place to relocate to as it seems to have a lot of programs between lots of family and internal medicine options with both U of N and Creighton.I think there is even a program in Lincoln so I guess it would be possible to commute or live somewhat in between. So I was hoping my brothers here at DHC could help me with a little cyber scouting.

How do y'all like Omaha?
Affordable housing in good school districts?
Good place for people in their late 20s to live?
Low crime I'm guessing, compared to other cities of similar size?
I'm assuming the people are friendly as that region of the US seems to be that way.
Access to decent public hunting? Deer/ Waterfowl leases available if willing to pay? Not a priority but would be nice to have something to do during limited time off.

As of right now the percentages would be inclined to us staying in Texas but Ok City, Wichita, KC, and Omaha seem to be on our lists as they seem to be cities with good training, and decent number of programs, relatistic rates of acceptance, and not located in the NE or SE US. Would love a little feedback.

Dirt,
I spent two years at Creighton for a business degree before transferring back to my home state of MN. Omaha is ok. Not great but would be a decent place to spend your residency years. It's a typical Midwest town with affordable housing and friendly people. You will be able to find some duck hunting on the Platte River and upland hunting west of Omaha. Turkey hunting sounds to be pretty good too. No pro sports teams to follow and the Huskers football is the thing in those parts. Hope this helps.

Ohh you're right, my bad. I will go sign up for a random forum specialize in city relocations. Heaven forbid I ask some like minded individuals on an online community I'm proud to be a member of for help. I guess these forums are only for legitimate cyber scouting.
