Why bother breaking thick enough ice to walk on? A paiul of warm water with a bit of blue vegitable dye and spread in on the ice-it looks like open water, Also black poly looks like open water too (from what I heard).
I late season I use combo of field and water decoys when there are 1/2 to 1" thick ice and not too strong of winds.
jsut looking though other state formes... saw thsi thred... here in kansas haveing feild dekes out on ice with a few water dekes in an opening is about as deadly as hunts come...but h2o is right .. if you can walk on it don't bother breking it...al you need is the ilsussion that there is open water...
