Hey i was just wondering if anyone has tried the new redhead xps mallard decoys? I just bought a doz. And they have chipped and the paint is peeling all over... i paid $22 for em and i was just wondering if anyone else was having the same problem with them.... I think i'll go with the Avery decoys next year... they look great and are enexpensive.....
same with the HOT BUY decoys made by greenhead.threw them in the water the first time, and the paint just peels off.for 25 dollars, you get what you pay for. remember.....squeeze dont pull......
Avery is claiming they have new paint this year. I have heard alot of praises on there new dekes. I have a few doz from a couple years ago, and they need touch up this year.
YEP............THE PAINT IS MIGHTY THIN. HAD TO REPAINT ALL OF MINE THIS YEAR. THEY LOOK GOOD, BUT WILL SCRATCH UP IF YOU LOOK AT EM. I THINK AVERY, GREENHEAD, AND ALL THE REST ARE SAME DECOYS JUST USING DIFFERENT NAMES. MINE HAS THE SNAP ON KEELS. SOME OF THEM STARTING LEAKING FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON AROUND THE KEELS.
Thanks guys... I was still wondering one thing leadhead where could I get some paint to touch them up? And I was wondering are you guys useing flambeu deeks? or what ....
Same problem, I emailed em and they traded mine for some new ones with the "better paint" BS, Bottom line....great looking dek that dont stay great looking..
THEY SHOULD HAVE EVERYTHING YOUR NEED. I USE THE FLAT BLACK, SOME USE THE SATIN BLACK. THEY ALSO HAVE THE GREEN AND THE GREY. THE GREY IS A LITTLE MUCH SHINY, BUT YOU CAN TONE IT DOWN BY ADDING A LITTLE BLACK. BROWN IS THE HARDEST TO FIND. I HAVE USED THE RUST COLORED PRIMER AND THAT WORKS OK ON MALLARDS. WHITE CAN ALSO BE A PROBLEM. THIS YEAR I WENT AHEAD AND ORDERED SOME WHITE FROM WING SUPPLY. IT MAY BE A GOOD IDEA TO ORDER SOME BROWN AND WHITE THEN YOU ARE SET. YOU CAN ALSO MIX WHITE AND BLACK TO GET THE COLOR GREY YOU WANT.
ANOTHER OPTION: GO TO YOUR LOCAL HOBBY SHOP AND GET SOME MODEL PAINT. IT WORKS GOOD AND COMES IN ALL COLORS. I HAVE USED THE FLAT BROWN AND IT WORKS REAL WELL, JUST WISH IT CAME IN BIGGER BOTTLES.
i wonder what would happen if as soon as you got the xps decoys you sprayed 2 or 3 coats of a satin fininsh clear coat on them? it might work. i really like the look of the xps dekes but i've herd about the problems since they came out. good luck.
The satin finish might help for a little while. The biggest problem we had was leakers. We went together and bought 9 doz. before duck season, and before the season was over, we pulled 26 decoys out that were sinking. The sad thing is, we only picked up the spread 4 times during the season. Like what someone else said above, you get what you pay for. Still can't go wrong with old faithful. The Magnum Flambeau!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the same problem with avery greenhead gear bluebill decoys. I used the crap out of them this season and the paint is coming off real bad. Does any one have the e-mail address to who I contact for replacements. By the way, I had 2 of them that leaked right out of the box!
They will fix you up... just go to www.greenheadgear.com and they have a number that you can call. The decoys they are selling out now are amazing. No leaks. or paint problems. I think you'll be satisfied with the new decoys they send you if you choose to have them send you new decoys..
