they are a very pretty bird, and taste not too shabby in jerky, sausage, and even stew!

Looks like you guys will have to learn to shoot em if you want to get any birds this year, numbers are out and they are up a lot! :salude:

I've had some good shoots, shooting at shovelers. Mixed them in with the rest of the duck meat and have never noticed any difference. I guess like mentioned above it all depends on what they have been feeding on.

I have only shot a handful of em. I dont mind the taste if they are cooked well. I live in Ontario so we shoot a lot of teal and mallards. :salude:

We got a buddy of mine. We traveled from southeastern Iowa all the way to Northeastern North Dakota, jumped out and hurried to the edge of our pothole to make the opening whistle. We were frantically loading our guns because it was already shooting time and my buddy got his gun loaded first. I saw a smiley coming right over his head and I said, "Pintail drake! " Needless to say we were laughing as he was calling me every name in the book. I had a rough dinner that night when I had a smiley samich because he didn't want to get it mixed in with the rest of the meat .

I don't shoot what I won't eat. In fact if one falls among our group it's a mistake. Our hunting has been slow the last few years and I have seen an increase of spoonies being taken off the public areas I hunt.

I try not to shoot spoons. Last season I shot 1 by mistake. my worst season I shot 13. Beyond 40yards in low light they look like cinnamon teal.
I think its the body to bill ratio. cinnamon teal have a large beak for thier body size. I will not eat them, but I do give the ones I shoot a way. Some people like them. :getdown:

Yeah I shoot them, but they do taste like crap. Probably because 90% of their diet is other animal fecies. Pretty gross if you think about it. I think i'm going to puke now.
