i think the type of dokken used is a moot point. i think the different species are mainly for the handler's preference. the main thing i use them for is to get the dog used to the size of a duck. if your dog will retrieve a mallard dokken, then surely he'll retrieve any diver. i would recommend using a goose to because of the significant difference in the two birds. of course, that is if your dog will be retrieving geese.

Are you talking about the one that dives as the dog approaches? I've seen them used in field trials, looks pretty neat. Not sure of the cost but it seemed to reflect a true hunting scenario. Besides, the look on some of those dogs faces when that bird disappeared! Priceless!

if this is the case, i haven't ever seen these. i assumed you were referring to just a diver duck decoy (i.e. bufflehead, canvasback, etc.)

Yeah I meant the one that dives under the water when you pull on a string. Seemed like it would work well to simulate a cripple, and I just wanted to see if anyone has ever used them.

Dukhnter7: I can't imagine what my dog would do if I got one of these for her. I'm sure her face would be one to laugh at too.

I've never seen one but it sounds like it would get the dog used to putting his head under the water to retrieve. Mine came to it when she had to retrieve a duck on a small pond and the duck kept diving on her.

Keep the sport alive, take a kid hunting / fishing.
