I am looking at getting a new extrema II. I am wondering if it is worth paying the extra $400 for the KO? Who has shot both styles with the KO and with out?

I don't know about the price difference you mentioned. Around here it is more like $200. more for a Kick-Off. (I assume you are comparing apples vs apples, ie. a black synthetic (or a camo synthetic) with and without the Kick-Off and not a black synthetic without a Kick-Off with a camo synthetic with a Kick-Off since the camo adds about $200. to the cost vs a black)

As for the difference between the two, it depends on what loads you are shooting, how you are shooting and how big you are. If you shoot light loads on a skeet range, you won't notice much recoil reduction with the Kick-Off. If you shoot heavy loads from a layout blind, you certainly will. Ditto if you are smaller in build. Personally, I would get the Kick-Off. I am fairly big and shoot lots of goose loads from a layout blind and love the soft recoil of the Kick-Off. It allows you to get back on a second or third shot much faster and is a pleasure on the shoulder.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you get a deal on one, get the KO....if not, I wouldn't worry about dumping the extra cash. I shoot one without the KO and it feels fine. I have soo many layers on by duck season I don't feel a dang thing with any gun.....lol

Camo vs camo. With KO $1599 with out $1199. I am 6'2 about 190 lbs. I shoot my 870 all day long w/ 3" bb's and it does not bother me. No lay out blind for me. Over decoys or jump shooting.

I don't own a beretta, but from what I've read the recoil isn't that big a deal, but with that in mind you're already spending $1200 on a gun, whats another $400.

Another $400= Shells to hunt with, new decoys, a new call, gas to go hunting (with price of it), new waders. Maybe not all of the above but a few. I hear what you are saying about you are already spending so much why not go for the gusto. But I have wasted so much money on things that I really did not need and in the end did not make a lick of difference.

My Xtrema2 will be starting it's 3rd season this fall. You do not need the KickOff. I've shot 2 3/4" and plenty of 3 1/2", it's a gas gun, no need for extra recoil suppression. Spend the money on other stuff

I will play devil's advocate.

Ask yourself 'will I always wonder, what if'

Do you buy a 4x2 truck when you wanted 4x4. Hand rolled windows over electric. AC vs No AC.

I agree with the other folks, you will be hard pressed to tell any difference with it.

I only shoot 2 3/4" but I went on and bought the gun with K/O.

I have also converted my Uncle's Xtrema1 to the Kick-Off (cause he shot mine and felt like he could tell a difference). I can't tell a difference. But I'm not 67yrs yet either.

The Kick-Off part is $289 to your door when ordered direct from Beretta. Now it might take 3 months to get it (when they are out of stock) but if you just have to have it later on you can do it yourself in about 30 minutes time.

I just checked at the local gunshop and the difference between the Xtrema 2 with and without the Kick-Off is $400. When I bought my Xtrema 2 there must have been a sale or something since there was only about a $250. difference then. Sorry, my bad.

At $400. difference, I would get the Xtrema 2 without the Kick-Off. Since the Kick-Off is just a screw in unit that you can retrofit in about 2 minutes, paying an extra $100. to get a gun with it installed vs buying the gun and part and installing it yourself doesn't add up. Plus if you buy the gun without the Kick-Off you will get a pair of stock spacers which would cost you about $20. to order and which you will probably need to get the correct LOP at your height.

Whichever way you decide to go you will enjoy the gun. Like DoubleBayou I don't shoot the 3.5" shells but the Kick-Off still compresses with light skeet loads so it is obviously absorbing recoil even with those loads.

I looked at them like 6 months ago and there was about a $200 diffrence. When I went looking this weekend it was a $400 difference  . Just FYI the guy at shop said Beretta is doing a 20% increase next month and Benelli just did a 20% increase. So if you are looking at a beretta might want to get it soon. Thanks for all the help and info. I am off to Cabella's.

Might be a little too late, but the Dick's sporting goods in Overland Park, KS has the Xtrema 2 in camo, without KO for $1099. I would check other Dick's for this price. The KO was about $400 more.

Got a 28" max4 KO at Cabelas last night. About $1250 otd. The box from the factory was labeled as a non KO. When we opened it to check out the gun it was a KO model and they gave it me for the price of the non KO because that was what they showed inventory for. The manager said he thinks some one was looking at the non KO and KO and the sales man put them back in the wrong boxes. So some one got screwed and got a non KO instead of a KO and I got one hell of a deal.

sorry if this was already mentioned but when i was looking at them, the biggest problem with the KO was that it increased the length of pull to where it was no longer natural for me. i like a 14.5" LOP it just seems natural.

someone mentioned that the KO allows you to get your 2nd and 3rd shot off quicker. now, i can use the KO but also think of that thick jacket you'll be wearing. if you can't get the first shot off quick and clean because you're getting hung up on clothing, then i guess you'll need a quick 2nd and 3rd.

Snowbird, I shoot the Xtrema with a Kick Off and a 1/2" extension to the LOP. I have never had a problem with the butt snagging on my coat when mounting the gun...probably because I learned from an early age to push the gun at the target and then pull it back against my shoulder and cheek when mounting. My hunting partners will tell you that I can get on a bird as fast or faster than anyone when the "take 'em" is given.
