I believe you'll find smaller bored calls like the Echo or RNT poly Timbers the easiest single reeds to get up and running on. Master one of those, and the louder larger-bored singles should take little or no effort at all.

Okay, I was looking at the echo poly timber single reed and am confused to whether it will perform well in open water where I think I’ll Mostly be hunting,

One of my favorite, inexpensive calls is from Quaker Boy. It is an acrylic, single reed call for $24 bucks. Quackmaster Acrylic ™ – Quaker Boy
I have one of these on my lanyard and have used it for nearly 15 years. Still sounds great and is easy to run. However, looks like it is currently out of stock.

I also have one of these: Camo Quackmaster ™ – unpackaged – Quaker Boy and I have no idea why, but they are currently $5 bucks. This is a good quality call and for that price, it is a no-brainer to try out.

A quiet call you're confident you're competent with will work a hell of a lot better anywhere than a loud call you're afraid of using for fear you'll squawk on it. Like most else: learning to walk will make running a whole lot easier.

Okay, also that learning to walk will make running a whole lot easier has got to be the best anklet I’ve ever heard.

Are there any specific models you like? Or any other brand. I’m just trying to get the best one I can for now.

Personally I haven’t used them, but have been hunting with people that like them and they sounded great. You can look into a lot of calls for the $110-150 range. Do some reading, reviews can tell you some other thoughts on the call you are looking at.

Lares t1 small bore....far better than most calls out there...and chances of overbowing it are slim...plus it's not a throw away call
But you'll lose more on it's resale than if you'd have thrown away a poly you hadn't decided was all you need or want, which may well be the case with the Lares.

Lets be honest Rick....there is very little loss on any Lares resale...ever...and quite frankly, Lares are some of the most wanted calls on the market right now....just visit any calling site for verification...it will become clearly obvious

Do you have any friends that know how to waterfowl hunt? Anyone local? No matter what call, trying to learn not only how but when to use a call takes more than YouTube. I’d see if anyone local, friend, family etc will work with you and let you borrow a call to learn with.

Once you have some idea how to blow it, then you can start the expensive hobby of finding that “right call” which is going to be an RNT or Ducklander if you have any sense.

You're trying to BS a guy who's both bought and sold enough Lares calls to know the pricing difference is as I've stated: more or less the cost of an RNT or Echo. Likely more.

Doesn't mean guys won't ask for closer to what they've in a like-new Lares they didn't care for, and some fool might even pay it, but I had $95 shipped in my used T-1 (to use the call you've suggested as example). So its seller lost $55 off it's new price, plus his shipping, tax and shipping it to me. (I passed it on, shipped, for $95 and, thereby paid the cost of Priority Mailing to learn it was nothing special. Which I thought quite fair.) Most recently took a hickey similar to that T-1's original owner, after including ancillary costs, when I sold a Magnum Hen for $110 not too long ago: the "now I know" cost of buying new.

LOL...I'm not BSing anyone... FACT; Lares T1's are practically sold out everywhere....Another fact...they are very likely the highest in demand right now....currently to find 1 $20 under retail is a steal...if you can find one at all....I've been seeing them being sold above retail now and then...but very few are for sale....there's a good reason for that....supply is extremely low, combined with very large demand. Just because some people made poor choices, it doesn't mean the rest of us will😆
Don't let your Lares hatred get in the way of the truth...just because you couldn't make them work for you, doesn't mean thousands of others don't like them
