Anyone have them? Runnin through dense fog on a 20 minute boat ride down a big river can be a biyatch.... ive been tossin around in my head, the idea of mounting some good lights to the front of my boat to find stumps and floating logs and having my spotlight to navigate with. Just wondering if anyone has experience with using fog lights or any other types that are effective in thick fog. Because i know from experience, using a spotlight in fog is useless. :help:

DC,

As jd said...nothing works well in fog. They work great though in clear weather for lighting the water. But like you said make sure you keep the spotlight.

We have them on our boat....unfortunately we've had problems with them since we got em due to wiring issues. We have to rewire the whole system.

I would recommend the ones from War eagle...they come with a really tough mounting bracket that you screw done onto the boat and it protects the light. You can even step on it if you need to! But if they burn out I think it is easier to buy a new light to put in place than just getting a bulb.

The best thing I found was a railroad lamp. 9V battery (big one) 2 bulbs and an adjustable "D" handle. Bulky and square but effective. Also hard to find. And go dead slow.

thanks yal. i was afraid that fog lights wouldnt work well for fog on the water either. thats why i wanted to ask before i bought some. I'm still goin to mount some kind of lights to the bow, that way ill have a constant light straight ahead.

and im goin to rig up a plug to my console so I can run the spotlight. my plug right now is at the front of my boat and even with an extension wire, i cant quite reach the spotlight while driving :hammer: so someone else has to, and ive hunted with some pretty horrible spotlight men

You're not kidding. When I'm driving the boat I wanna be the one holding the spotlight. There's a certain way I learned to do it and that I like it done and it seems no one else know how. I stay way to tense when someone else has the light.

the description says penetrate the thickest fog.....Like stated before, ive always been under the impression there's no such light with that capability.... but if there is, im buying one.

So, my question to you is... do you have one and if so, does it perform any differently in thick fog than other spotlights?

It can't be that bright....description says it only has 70k candle power. I've got spotlights with over 1 million. Only difference they make is how much more they're gonna blind you when you turn on in the fog

As I was reading all the responses one thing came to my mind, lights and fog SUCKS!!

Then I read Major Woods response.

I couldn't agree more. GPS is the way to go. I wish I had a nickel for every foggy morning I had to head out into the fog.

Where I hunt in Texas we have a larger part of water to cross and I get turned around every time. I have a compass, but a GPS brings you right in.

All you do is run your route and mark your center lines, stumps, etc. You can get there with your eyes closed (except to look at your GPS of course).

Just my two cents.
