let it be said that this was a test as these individual calls are set up currently, and this test is only the way I put air into a call another person calling could run the same tests with completely different results. Also no two calls blow the same so you may find different results with another group of the same calls. Back pressure is another isue that I am not sure how to measure. So take this for what it is worth.

Calls I used.
1. zinc XR-2 double reed duck call ( Acrylic)
2. RNT short barrel (in Bois D'ark)
3. Rowdy DOA double trouble ( acrylic)

Single cut feed.....

I found all three calls single cut very well. Not a nickles difference between them as far as difficulty doing this. The tones are different but what would you expect from three different calls. All were duck for sure.
This is the feed I use in the field almost all the time.

where the difference came about is in the double cut feed.

In a moderate speed double cut feed the zinc seemed to me the hardest to hold together. the DOA and the short barrel were very close.
I use this sometimes but not very often, and I think it is more because it sounds cool than it is because it is all that effective.

As I tried to blow my comp feed I found the short barrel held together a little easier than the DOA. I would probably not use this fast of a feed in the field much if at all.

I set the DT and the SB both up as single reeds and double reeds. There may have been a slight difference in the difficulty of the feed between the same call as a single or a double, but not much if any. There was not any difference in my mind.

Kind of a fun experement but I am not sure what it all means.

Enjoy.

Bret, what's a competition feed call? I'm trying to learn to comp call, and I'm trying to learn what it takes to call judges vs. calling ducks. I can do a "ticka ticka" rolling feed call semi-good, but I don't seem to get the speed I hear in competitions.

I will do my best.
just keep working on building speed and clearity. If you can learn to control it while combining single cuts and double cuts in a controled combination that can blend with the flow of your routine you have it. That is the best way I can describe it. BTW I am still working on all that junk.

In this post I was talking about a very fast double cut feed. tickitickitickit...

There is a very good chance I will be in KC in august for the Cabelas contest if you are there find me I would love to meet you.
