buy a 4 foot broom stick and and cut a piece of 3/4 inch conduit 3 1/2 feet long. slide the broom stick down into the conduit. it will be a little snug so sand the broom stick so that it can slide into the conduit . The broom stick should go about four iches inside the counduit.sink a bolt through the part where the conduit overlaps the broom stick, it should fit together nice and tight but the crew just ensures it will work. Screw the gig head into the broom stick.

On the rare occasion that I spear them I use a very long gig, twice as long as I am tall. I buy the commercial spear heads, they are cheap and sharp.
Usually when frogging, we shoot them with .22 shorts. It's much faster and you get to point and laugh at your family and friends when they miss, or if they shoot one too close and get splattered with a mixture of marsh water and frog gore.

They make poles for roller brushes that are like plastic broom sticks that are extendable, so you have a multiple situation tool. Very very useful. just screw the gig from walmart on the end of that.

Instead of a gig, use small foot trap. Screw the trap underneath the pan. Set the trap and just tap him on the nose. You can use any pole and place a trap on each end. It works great and IMO much more effective.

So long as you keep the light in their eyes I can see it working. Frogs are temporarily blinded by the spotlight allowing you to get close enough to gig, or grab them. The trap thing sounds interesting. I use a boat paddle myself.

As long as you keep the light on them they stay still. the trap will hold them and amazingly doesn't kill them. If you go on say a friday night and don't get many just leave em in a feed sack or whatever you want go again sat. That way you have enough for a meal. This works great give it a try and let me know. If you want i can try to load pictures of mine

I have a question about the idea of using a 22. I have never gone frog giggin, but I was always taught never to shoot at water due to the danger of ricochets. Isn't it dangerous to shoot at them with a 22? Or is it fine as long as you use the shorts?
