i read in a gun magazine the other day that remmington has recalled all of these guns. If you send it back to them they will give credit towards a new gun. If i remember correctly the credit they were giving was worth more than the gun new just for having the inconvinience. Dont want to bust your sell but it might help you sell if someone buys it from you with the intensions of getting an upgraded remmington.

a friend of mine has one of these and the shop that he bought it from locally called the other day saying to bring it back in, that it was recalled. they offered 250 dollars (from Remington) trade in for the gun. He bought the rifle for 400 dollars, does that sound a bit sketch to you too? only getting half your money back for something that was recalled. what a load of [email protected], they should fix what's wrong and return it.. but they wont even release what the problem was that the recall was about.

I have one of these, noted the post the other day and went to Remingtons site, called the number to inquire about recall and got info about the ammo, not the gun being the problem, then inquired at ammo site (Hornandy) and they said that even their owner has a 597 and hasn't returned it since they're not having any problems(he hasn't had any issues)...I've shot this gun so many times and I haven't had any problems with it, it shoots well, and the gun cycles well, No problem with the ammo or even the gun, and you're right I paid $450 for the gun 2 years ago, plus extra = almost $500 so $250 isn't even right at all- I'm keeping mine

yeah I have shot my friends' rifle too and it works fine, no issues or malfunction so I don't see what the issue was unless a bad batch of steel? he too is just keeping it as well, why bother if it isn't broken.

The problem is the ammo.I have shot hornadys 17 hmr out of a bolt gun.I had some of the brass cases split over half the length of the brass. While loading the clip I noticed the brass was split BEFORE it was even being fired.I would amagine out of a semi auto a guy could get a face full of brass, powder an hot gasses.I still have some never fired Hornady 17 hmr ammo with small plits in the neck.
