I would wait until the pup is around 15 weeks old....take him to the trap range and get him out of the truck about 100 yds away and play fetch with him...gradually work your way closer....once you get close enough that he looks up when the guns are fired, stay at that distance and continue fetch....once he is able to ignore, move closer....in about 2 or 3 sessions, you will have him nearly to the shooting line...

Just pick a training method and stick with it. I have used the healing stick, wonder lead, and the e-collar on my dog, but you have to use each one of them correctly...follow a proven method...don't just throw it on your pup and let him have it....there is plenty of good information on this site for just about any question about training that you can think of...and a few things that you haven't thought of....be patient, and don't get ahead of yourself, otherwise you will turn your dog into nothing more than a dog-food processor.
