Ok everyone. If you went this past weekend, please post the following:

where
how long a drive
what was the weather
how did the birds react
what worked well in the decoys, calls, or chokes

For others going in 3 days and a wakeup, please check in as soon as you can.

Went to Summer Lake with my lady and my dad. We shot 21 ducks and two specks. One of the gadwall was banded. That was on Saturday. A pretty good weekend...I'll post again after the Zone 1 opener. Later guys.

I will be out there this weekend for sure chasing the mighty mallard.

Sounds like you did pretty good Jon. Good job. How may BB's rained down on you while you were there??

I drove 300 miles to Summer Lake, but I didn't leave until early Saturday morning, so I missed the morning shoot. I hunted on the north end of the area and threw out about a dozen dekes. Within 15 minutes a couple of pintail hens came around. I took that as a good sign and let 'em go. I didn't see another duck the entire rest of the day. But that's OK. I went mostly to attend the DU banquet and meet up with some old friends.

Sunday morning, I got up at 5:00 and noticed there wasn't a cloud in the sky. I went to the church breakfast and talked with one of the local ODFW biologists. He said that the birds would be hanging out on the big water in the refuge and on the lake itself and hunting the north end of the refuge wouldn't be worth my while. So, I headed back to Portland.

Hopefully, the opener at Sauvie Island this weekend will be better.

was out destination point for sunday afternoon. we saw zero ducks but found 3 pheasants, two were too far away and the third jumped up at 5:10. Did meet a great pair of gentlemen releasing the next days birds and they let two of them out so my daughter could watch. Classy. She talked about it all the way home before she fell asleep.

2 shots fired, 0 birds

A buddy and I were at Sauvie Island for the second opening, but didn't see many birds flying. All we got was one widgeon and that was within the first 15 minutes. We hunted the North Unit and heard all kinds of shooting over in the Western Unit. I'll probably try to get drawn there the next time I go, maybe in a few weeks.
