The old adage of "better to have and not need than need and not have" applies in this instance. I have been running .125 boats for the last 13 years. We hit submerged logs and the occasional deadhead or rock. Plus we bust Ice. Not all the time, but it can be up to a couple of inches of good ice or up to 4-5 inches of rotten ice. I am glad I run .125 I have seen threads where the weight premium of .125 over the same boat made with .100 was calculated. It is less than you think.

What are you going to power this boat with? How big of a boat? You said you want to do this once. Go .125 and don't look back.
I concur.
