An Alberta hunter has disgusted both his fellow outdoorsmen and consevationists by saying he won't kill a grizzly bear this spring if someone meets his price on EBay.
"He's holding a bears life for ransome," said Bob Semchuk, president of the Calgary Fish and Game Association. "It's really quite shocking. Someone who would do something like that would be totaly disgraced among hunters with integrity."
A man from Edson, Alta. has listed his spring bear hunting licence - oe of 73 issued by the province - on the online auction site under the title Grizzly Bear: Save a Life. The entry says the lister will destroy his nontransferable tag and mail it to the successful bidder, thus preventing a bear's death.
Dave Ealey, a spokesman for Alberta Sustainable Resources, said the man isn't doing anything illegal - assuming he truly does have a tag.
"It is illegal to sell or transfer a tag, but if this person is choosing not to go out and use the licence, that's his choice," Ealely said.
EBay officals did not return phone calls.
Almost sounds like an other scam by one of the anti hunting groups to put hunters in a bad light and drum up some finaces at the same time.
