I'm heading out tomorrow with sleds onto the dikes at Farmington Bay--hoping to find some open water. Anyone been out to Farmington recently that would be willing to provide an update on the birds and the ice conditions?
I don't know anything about the condition of the marsh but what I do know is every duck hunter that I have conversed with in the last few day's, in the SL Valley will be there so arrive early...
Just an update for those that are still planning on heading out this year...
Farmington was OK. It's pretty well iced up, so you have to do some walking to find open water--there were even a couple of boats that were breaking through the ice to get out. If you get a decent spot, you might be able to get 4 ducks or so within 90 minutes of shooting hours.
Even had a few geese fly--just not over my head.
Try again this Friday...
