I am going to start diver hunting this year and have some questions.

1. I came across some parachute cord for free and was wondering if this is good for saltwater diver hunting?

2. I also received some 3lb dumbells for free and was wondering if these would work for weights.

I am looking at hunting in 15-35 ft deep water in coves and bays. Probally a 2ft drop with snaps. I am probally going to set out 2-3dz bluebills, 1dz cans,1 dz redheads, 6 buffleheads and 1-2 dz scooters. So about 7 dz total. Is this going to be enough decoys? I have spoke to some people who say I need 150 decs.

The size of your spread is important. Is there a "magic number"? No. But with divers the bigger the spread the better. The parachute cord is great but watch the knots, you'll have to tie sme good solid knots in it because the motion of the waves will eventually loosen them up. I use 550 parachute cord and I really like it...especially if it's free. The dumbell weighs will work fine too as anchors but if your out of shape like me you might want to use them to sculpt your bicepts as well. Have fun and good luck

I've set diver spreads that range from 6 birds to 100+. It all depends on the area and what you are after. As the captain said there is no magic number. I look at what the birds are doing naturally and go from there.

They area I am going to hunt I normally see big rafts of birds. Mostly Scooters and Golden Eye but, late season I see a lot of bluebills. I already have a dz bluebills, cans and redheads. I am going to try to use the 2 part foam to make the rest.

I am also going to try a nother place for divers which have harlequins.

I''ve got a buddy that lies out there. I'm going over this fall for harli's. I can't wait. Harliquins and Barrows on the coast then inland for widgeon and pintails. Slim possiblity for an Eurasian widgeon but it's a better chance than I have around here.

If you want Pintails and Widgeons we have them. I had a few days last year were I shot my Drake Pin first thing and sat around the rest of the day just watching them land. We do get Eurasian Widgeons pretty often. We had 3 different people I hunt with get one last year.

I'm more interested in the harliquins and barrows goldeneyes. Those are 2 I have never shot. The puddlers are just for some variety although the chance at a Eurasian does interest me alot.
