Given the yellow bill, I think just a funky late season hatch mallard drake.

Doesn't have any purple on the speculum, so I don't see any black duck there. Doesn't have the orange bill so I don't see any old hen with a drop f testosterone.

I think it's just an ugly duck, but I may be wrong.

It does not show well but the area around the curls had a green sheen.
So does the dusty mallard drake on my wall.

The only thing that makes me think it's MAYBE a mallard x Mexican duck is the lack of white ring around the neck, but those are hard to prove to be hybrids. The heavy curl suggests it's not a Mexican hybrid but an argument can be made either way. May be something else, who knows.

If it's cool to you, put it on the wall. Fair chance you'll never conclusively know if it's a hybrid or not.

Put your finger down under and it'll tell you though conclusively if it's a drake or an intersex hen!

I don't see any wigeon or any gadwall in that duck. Also too late in the year for an immature drake.
Except for the cheeks/neck, it's all adult mallard drake. I don't know what's going on with this guy....
