Especially in tech, almost all of the expenses are in staff salaries (and benefits). If Musk thinks he can shed 50%-75% of the workforce and maintain the platform, it tells you two things (1) There were massive amounts of unproductive people who were not working, doing woke stuff like snooping on conservatives or just too many layers of management (probably all three of those), and (2) Musk may have figured out how to finally turn a profit at twitter in the simplest and fastest way.

I've been at companies that have gone through 10-25% reductions. In some cases, you realize very quickly the value of some folks who were let loose, while with others, it only confirms they were all fluff and provided little to no value to the organization, customers or colleagues. The woke company I left about a month ago, has a dedicated and well-staffed DEI office (diversity, equity, inclusion). NO ONE could name anything they did or accomplished....ever, but they were always 100% protected from any job actions.

And as a great over simplifier of level of effort, it does seem that if twitter staff just gets out of the way and lets free speech flow, you do not need hordes of woke curators and watchdogs looking to block conservative comments, throttle back their presence and of course issuing warnings and bans.
