Hello. I'm hoping to get a discussion going here to shed some light on a topic I've been contemplating for awhile. I've been shooting for 20 years or so, and just recently getting into hand-loading my hunting shells. I'm using ITX and steel. I get the need for thicker shotcups for steel and abrasive tungsten powder shot, but say a lead load calls for 1 oz of lead shot, with a shotcup that is used in steel loads, wouldn't it be safe to say you could replace the 1 oz lead with 1 oz of steel shot? What i'm getting at is an ounce is an ounce, right? I could stuff an ounce of feathers in place of the lead and it wouldn't change the pressures in the chamber. So what exactly is the issue with subbing steel for lead?
Thanks,
Mugz.
