Lately it seems like many threads have been locked down for no reason at all. We had a TOM* thread with three pages of friendly banter and reminiscing, about the days of Tom*, we then had a bit of a heated arguement about cruelty to animals specifically the natural merits of birds of prey, several of us (including yours truly) were publicly flogged and ordered to not post anymore on that subject.
I guess my concern is that it seems like we are unable to have any good arguements at all. The "Soap Opera" flavor of this particular forum is being taken away. Are we supposed to talk about our kids braces, and the local Fire Department fund raiser. No controversial topics allowed, don't talk about Tom* or Jrocks crabs, or the fact that Don Taylor is a lunatic. I feel that there is an abuse of power sometimes with Moderators having the ability to just lock down a thread. It reminds me of grade school with the hall safety patrol. Don't run in the hall, don't pull the girls pony tails, and don't skip steps on the stairs.
No offense Mods, I just think that certain things should be let go, that's what makes this sight fun to come to.

It's not an abuse of power. The Mods and A2 are getting sick and tired of having to deal with the tattle tales and all the B.S. that goes along with it. Basically a few whiners and crybabies have ruined it for the rest of us. The same people jumping down another guys throat are also the ones doing the complaining. No spine at all, no matter how much "Pride" they act like they have. The same people are threatening to go to the mods or admin to try to get people banned. If I were a Mod or an Admin I'd end up doing the same thing. Every year there's a spring cleaning of sorts. I'm not going to go into detail about who it is or where they're from.

Hey! I resemble that comment!

I think that the idea of locking a post because of the emotion involved may be severe. I don't know the figures, but it seems when we get into heated discussions, the site gets more visitors. Just like the * letter to USFWS, I thought more people would be into that kind of drama.

I read the T&C section. Where does the BOP thread fall? What condition was broken? Is it just the way the thread was heading ?

Ok mr. mod. Hammer me for asking instead of PM'n.

Read your terms and conditions. In the Birds of Prey one nothing was wrong until people started personally bashing instead of bashing the idea. If someone starts to whine, complain, and name call it gets locked down.

Here is what the Terms and Conditions have to say about it-

" Please keep your language clean and decent. This include personal inflammatory language as well as obscenities. And the profanity definition includes acronyms and abbreviations of profanity."

"Flaming: flaming or personal attacks are not tolerated. Should anyone use inappropriate language, start a personal attack, or engage in hate speech, they can be barred from all further discussions. Easily said, challenge an opinion but don't attack the person."

And there's always this one. Which is why you are given an edit button-

"Since this is interactive, and everyone who participates in www.duckhuntingchat.com is "in it together", please treat others the way you wish to be treated. One way to guard against misunderstandings is to read over your response before you post it."

So really more threads should be locked down than what are. The mods and admins thuroghly chat about a topic before it gets locked down. So no, it really isn't just one mod or admin controlling your threads, it's all of us.

I foresee this topic being removed as well due to this rule-

"Discussions about moderator or administrator actions are welcome in email or local private messages, but should not be discussed in public forums. This is out of respect for the members and moderators or policy involved."

CDH is right...if we cant talk about Jrock's crabs what can we talk about? As many times as i have wanted to let my finger slip and hit the "I" instead of the "U" when typing Captduckhead, i havent....we keep it clean here even if we get at each other throats its still all in fun...we are big boys and understand the rules of conduct, but i think mods should only step in to handle people who spam, ruin threads on purpose and things of that nature, not to end an argument in midstream...thats like having to pinch it off it midstream, it burns....unless your jrock then it burns all the time anyways...

I think from what I've seen that some of it is that some guys don't know how to disagree and still be civil. Some guys seem to live to stir crap, and I don't mean doing it to be be funny (SWD are gay, I ran over some goats, jrock's crabs, jehler's douche preferences, funny stuff) but intentionally throw stuff out like the recent BoP thread. And then they complain when they are challenged on their statements and people get on them. I look at another site that has some real nasty exchanges about Baikal shotguns-in fact, supposedly some of theguys have been mini-banned from even entering the discussion if Baikals come up. I stayed out of most of the BoP thing because I was real irritated about it.

Hitting the i instead of u when typing captianduckhead would be funny but probably vulgar and thus against the rules. I would deserve it however, for not foreseeing that when I signed on to this sight back in aughtsix. Hope I don't get the big :hammer: for this thread, I was just curious

I think the mods and us Admins are really getting burnt lately on these issues, and I find everyone is repeatedly saying the same thing. There are some individuals who really thrive on creating a stir and even after they are let go they continuously come back under new usernames with the sole mission of creating a riot. We've even seen other forums where members are glowing in their attempts to cause trouble here...it's all so petty and juvenile but these unfortunately are adults.

If anyone has any questions about how the site is run, see the "Contact Us" link at the top of every page. I will gladly take the time to explain any of site policies if anyone is interested.

As they say, my door is open.

Thanks

~ I will leave the thread open, but I will consider the matter closed

Let's keep it that way :hammer:
So I can't start the "My car is faster than you car" thread?

Chris, Again I commend you on your open door policy. Most sites could care less what members think about the way the site is run. At least you care about your members!

The funny thing is, as soon as I saw this thread about threads being locked, I figured the Tom* thread must have got locked. It's amazing the power of the *. But I did go back and read that thread and I didn't really see any reason for it to be locked. I thought the rules were PG-13. That thread was clearly PG-13.

You know, not every thread needs have sexual innuendo's. The beaver thread was bad enough. The question was asked earlier in this thread why all the locks... well, maybe cause, for example, this thread started asking about thread locking and is now focusing on clams and crabs, and I'm not talking about the kind you can get at Red Lobster.
