Around here if you don't use a mojo you may as well go home. The rich guys come out with 6 or 7 of them and us poor local kids can only afford one. If you got the spot you may be able to get by. Here even if I have the spot I can't get by without one. Wish they would outlaw them across the board.
mojo or not?
i am going to be hunting some heavily hunted public land this weekend and i was wondering if anyone had any tips on using my mojo or not and how many decoys should i use? any suggestions will help thanks, casey :help:

put about a dozen dekes on a jerk string and try it. You may be able to compete
I would agree, I think they help a bunch in the early season but later in the season the birds can recognize one. I like the jerk string, I built one in the off season and went out scouting about a week ago, tried it out and had ducks commited. good luck
Tired the jerk string when the batteries went dead. We had out 2 doz decoys. Before battery went dead 30 min 5 ducks after dead battery 2 hours 0 ducks. The rich city guys bring out 8 robos and the ducks suck into them like no other. I have rigged up 3 jerkstrings to complement the robo this year.
I use 2 spinners (sometimes 3) when hunting public ground. A decoy spread without a spinner will, more often than not, be unable to compete with a spread that has a "strobe light on a pole".
Last year on opening day I decided to go spinner-less and paid the price. I would call them in and then the groups on either side of me with spinners would do a quack or two and pull the birds right off us.
The state of Arkansas has taken the first step in outlawing spinners in the Mississippi Flyway for the 2005-2006 season and I for one am happy. I hope others follow and we get rid of those ugly things.

Are they considering just outlawing "spinning wing" or all motorized decoys? Because I can see where you guys would want to get rid of the spinners if there is that much competition...but what about those quivering duck butts? They're hardly as obvious as the spinners, but I would assume they would fall under the same "motorized" decoys. Also, what about the non-motorized spinners? If they outlaw motorized decoys, than you'll still have guys out there with six or seven non-motorized ones......just a thought....

The Quiver Magnets, bilge pump duck butts, Mallard Machines, et al. will not be banned next year. To me it seems they are on their way to banning all decoys that run off of electricity. This is just the first step.
It doesn't bother me very much if they do because jerk strings work very well. I'd only be upset because I just built myself a Mallard Machine and I'm out $75. :yes:

I know that they are outlawing the mojo's, but question if its all moving/motion decoys, or if you can still use decoys that are powered by wind of jerk.

I'm sure every state is going to be diff. California bans the use of MOTORIZED SPINNING WING Decoys, Until Dec. 1st. After Dec. 1 we can use motorized spinning wings. Before dec 1, we can still used other battery powered dekes, swimmers, flappers and other things. Wind power and jerk strings can be used all season long.
Most people round here dont use them so I have an massive advantage by using just one. :salude:
In Michigan where I hunt mostly public, heavily hunted areas the Mo Jo's only work early in the season. If you dont have one or two then your stuck with pass shooting. This all changes once the birds become educated, then you have to pull the Mo-Jo and let the hunt begin. Personally, I would like to see them banned, I prefer hunting the way it used to be without any motorized toys.....javascript:emoticon(':smile:')

MN banned the use of motorized spinning wing decoys on public land this year. It's been nice, because now we can seperate the real hunters from the pu$$ys. The decoys should be banned nation wide.
How do you guys build a jerk string?? My friend has a mallard machine with a remote, and so far this season, it hasn't produced like you think it should. Personally, I think the 4 decoys so close together with the battery case floating nearby looks foney, and any sharp mallard should be able to pick up on it.........any thoughts???
I was watching OLN this weekend and Bill Dance was selling this Underwater speaker system that emits the sound of fish schooling and eating other fish. To me it's about the same thing as a Robo duck. I definately understand the desire to catch more fish, and shoot more ducks, but you have to draw a line somewhere. I think electric powered gismos is best place to draw the line. I am still waiting for the Robo Ducky Feris Wheel to come out!

As far as the Mallard Machine goes, I love it. If I had a complaint it would be that at times, it becomes a pain in the ass lugging it around. While 3 or 4 decoys pilled so close together looks somewhat un-natural, the idea is to make sure the unit is running when ducks are present.
I think that is weak and not very well thought out. I use from 0 to 3 on any given day depending on my mood and how I percieve the ducks reacting to the Mojo's. This being said, according to you and apparently alot of other people, this makes me less of a hunter. OK, whatever. Here is the bottom line; No matter what you do to bring ducks in, provided it is in accordance with your particular gaming laws and done in a gentlemanly fashion, you are hunting fairly and ethically. Where I'm from the bag limit is still 6 ducks per day no matter what the spread. BTW, I sometimes take out a Mallard Machine with my 3 Mojo's. Take a gallon jug of milk filled with concrete and attach a bungee cord to the handle dropping it 100 or so feet from your blind. On the other end of the bungee attach some good decoy line. On this decoy line attach X amount of decoys on your way back to the blind. Jerk when you see the ducks.How do you guys build a jerk string??
