I purchased a Mossberg 935 off of gunbroker. It was listed as a gunsmith special; the return spring tube was broken off at the threads. I ordered a return spring tube kit from Midwest Gun Works, screwed it in and got the gun working again. Before I did, I had to wash the gun. I don't mean clean, I had to wash it. It was one of the filthiest guns I have ever seen (apart from a chicom SKS that was full of cosmoline that I had at one time). I had to completely disassemble the gun, spray it down with Simple Green then scrub with a toothbrush before I could get it clean. The piston had rust on it and I had to knock it out of the barrel lug with a punch.
The gun came with a plastic bag of chokes: Mossberg Accuchoke I/C, Mod, Full and a Patternmaster Anaconda Mid Range. I decided to pattern the gun just to see what would happen. I used Winchester Super-X 3" 12ga shells with 1 1/4 oz #2 steel pellets. According to the internet, there are 155-156 #2 pellets in 1 1/4 oz.

Supposedly the Winchester Super-X ammo is not that good but I think these are acceptable patterns for ducks over decoys. Interesting that the Anaconda choke did not perform at 40 yards as well as the factory accu-mag choke.
I tried to get this gun to shoot 2 3/4" target loads but that was a no-go. The heaviest target loads I could get were Winchester AAs Clay load at 1 1/8 oz of shot at (claimed) 1300 fps.
The barrel on this gun is overbored to 10 gauge specs. I want to try some 3 1/2" shells with bigger pellets for pass shooting.
I'm going to try to get out to my place next week and do some more testing with the factory Mod choke. I will also see if I can get some 3 1/2" shells.
