Well first of all your 835 has an overbored barrel that is the biggest difference. Your 535 I believe is pretty much a 500 that is 3.5 capable. Either gun would be a good work horse in my opinion. You will find many different ideas of the gun so just go with what fits you best and which swings best for you

i have both the 535 and 835. i baught them both brand knew. Sometimes the 835 ejects a loaded shell along with the empty.I have talked to many people about this issue and they have all said the same thing. If I was going to buy a mossberg I would buy the 535. I like mine just fine, but plan on buying a browning silver very soon

I've never heard of this, seen this, had this happen, nor do I think its possible.

Unless of course, the elevator isn't grabbing the shell before it feeds from the magazine tube. which I've only seen on 870's.

Silver, and I had an 835 an loved it. Toughest gun Ive owned so far. Looking forward to abusing my recently purchased MP 153 though also. I have seen a super nova dump loaded shells but it was cause the feed ramp was stuck up.

Greenster, it can and does happen.

wester, have a smith check the shell stop. That's what did it with mine. If you load the mag tube and jiggle the brass of the shell it should pop out. That's what makes it happen, your recoil shakes it free and it pops out. Have a smitthy look at it after you try that and tell them you need a new shell stop because yours is too short. They replaced mine and now it works like a charm. Hope that helps you get it fixed.

Slammer you are absolutely correct, it is operater error. Ned S who use to have a 835, now shoots a 935 with absolutely no problems. Best patterning gun on the market. Ned S
I noticed this problem occurs to me when I've been shooting my Remy 870 and then pick up the old Mossberg. I have never had this issue if I focus on not "short shucking" the 835. I have a buddy that went through the exact same thing when he first bought his 835. With a little practice he no longer has this issue.

Pure unadulterated BS by someone who has never owned, shot or patterned a 835/935. They will outpattern and shoot all ammo 50-100 fps faster than any other gun with the Hastings barrels second place. The 835/935 are the only guns with "extended" chokes inside the barrel. Can you say 100% steel patterns at 40 yds and 80% at 50 yds. Ned S the young 79 yr old who shoots 1700-1750 fps steel and working on 1800 fps plus and have patterned over 2300 steel shells. who generally uses the IC and Mod (90% patterns) chokes.

Poor Ned, Surely someone of your advancing years knows that you get what you pay for. If the mossturd is the best, why does it garner only a miniscule market share. If you can afford only that more power to you. It will get the job done (if it doesn't fall apart). If price were no object I wonder what you would shoot. I have guided duck and goose hunters for more years than I care to remember. I have seen more mossy's breakdown than any other.Hell Ned maybe you got a good one.
