Prior experience, we had a 1436 with a 15hp evinrude, older model, 2 stroke. With the older 15 I got 15-16 with a light hunting load, no dog. A newer 9.9 2 stroke might do what you want, if you're looking at something older or with a wider/heavier boat, go for the 15. Btw, a standard hunting load with a dog would've been about 150-200lbs heavier.
Motor question?
I'm looking to get a 14' john boat, and was wondering if a 9.9hp is to small. I want to get something that will push 13 or 14 mph with me a dog and some decoys. Theres a big difference in cost for a 9.9 vs a 15 so yalls thoughts are appreciated.Thanks
