I am planning on getting this heater for the blind and tent and wondering how they are if anyone uses them. Thanks!

We've used them for ice fishing, they work OK.

I prefer the dual sunflower burners that sit on top of the tank.
This is the one that I use. In a confined area, such as a blind on a duck boat, with two burners pointed in opposite directions, we can actually get it too warm. It works very well.

We used them in Nebraska a couple years ago, and I thought they worked fine. Helped keep the dog warm too, and we got a lot more use out of those little green canisters than I thought we would. They last quite a while. I'm thinking about getting one for my boat this year. But that all depends on IF it gets cold (enough) to need one

How long does one of the small propane cannisters last with one of these heaters?
A lot longer than I expected and one might think. I don't know the exact time, but it was pretty impressive. An hour, maybe 2? I really don't know

I've got the mr buddy jr. One can will burn on high, for a little better than five hours.
That is pretty impressive. On days that its not all that cold I dont bring our big heater because its big and heavy and just a PIA to haul around if you dont need it. My son always gets cold fingers when we hunt, is that mr buddy jr effective for using to warm your hands, like you would over a camp fire? Maybe i need to get the boy one of those.

Bought one for my hubby for his BD and have heard nothing but rave reviews. We have not had a chance to fire it up for any length of time, but it beats hell out of stomping your feet, and banging your hands against your sides. :hi:
I also bought the tank adapter for deer or blind hunting. Baby puts out.

I had two. They are crap. I threw them away. They wouldn't stay lit half the time, wind blew them out or the O2 sensor would fault and put the fire out. Spiders clogged up the burner. Mice built a nest in it. They were just unreliable. When burning, put out little heat.

Sooooo, I now use a propane fish cooker. A gazillon btu's and we lay a grill on top of it to cook stuff.

Mr. Buddy is not my friend.

UR makes a good point , they do blow out easily. You can't move them, and the o2 sensors can be temperamental. But they still can be effective and have their place. Small and easy to carry. Inside an ice shanty, or in a wind blocked area in a blind, they kick off some good heat. If you go to the deluxe model, they put a fan on it. It really moves the heat around. We have one in our blind, the batteries are from last year and still going. This model has two burners and two gas tanks. It burns at the same rate the jr does.

FYI, my local Dick's has them on sale for $89.99 right now. Only about $10 cheaper but oh well...

They are on sale at bass pro for $79 right now. They work well but wind will affect them. In a blind or boat blind they work well. I hunt with my 10 year old son and he loves it keeps him coming along even in cold temps. Great for drying off after dog shakes all over you too.

I also agree that they will blow out with wind on them.

I'm not impressed with the buddy heaters. I thought they were expensive for what they offered. I have used this type heater for many years and have been happy. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...ayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280942334641&item=280942334641&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466
You can find them for about $50. I have two of them, one hooked up to a bulk tank and the other I use the 1 pound cylinders. One pound will last about 4 hours. If I was to replace them I would replace them with these from Cabelas, they are nice and quiet. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabe...hTypeByFilter=AllProducts&x=25&y=9&Ntt=heaters&WTz_l=Header;Search-All+Products The advantage to this style heater is you can flip it on its back and cook with it as well as the heat. Also the thermocoupler will burn out eventually on portable heaters and you can find these at most hardware stores for about $10. Hope this helps.

I have a heater that I can wear... last for 6-8+ and keeps me plenty warm.
You live in NC, your not allowed to talk about needing a heater!
9 times out of 10 you are correct. But I've hunted in Michigan, and Alabama and been in cold temps. :hi:
Michigan ok, Alabama cold?

Very NW tip is where I'm from. COLD? Eh you are probably right, but it has its moments when it can get pretty cold. I consider below 35 pretty dang cold, especially when its blowing. I've hunted several times before heated vest when it was 25 degrees and blowing 20+....not fun in the stand.

You get 50 degree temps over here in NC and add a NE wind to it off the ocean and I consider that cold too.
