A three-day celebration of springtime called NatureFest will be held April 15-17 at Congaree National Park near Columbia. The event is sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Interior National Park Service with staffing support from several state agencies, colleges, schools and governmental entities.

The public is invited to attend free of charge. There will be special presentations on owls, canoeing, butterflies, kid's stuff, nature hikes, fish information, and much more. The owl prowls and canoe trips require advance registration- by calling (803) 776-4396. All programs begin at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center. . NatureFest set for April 15-17 at Congaree National Park will offer the opportunity for individuals and families to experience South Carolina's newest and only national park at its finest. The public is invited to bring a picnic lunch and spend the day learning about the natural world. Programs led by biologists, park rangers and other professionals will give park visitors the chance to explore the natural beauty of the park with the aid of knowledgeable guides.

NatureFest is held to celebrate National Park Week and Earth Day. Plans are to hold Nature Fest at Congaree National Park annually on the third weekend in April. Indoor presentations at this year's April 15-17 event are approximately an hour in length. Outdoor programs generally last about 2 hours.

A number of table displays will be presented throughout the day Saturday, April 16 Only. These include 9 am - 4 pm "Wildlife" (DNR); 9 am - 4 pm "Congaree Soils" (USC); 9 am - 4 pm "Exotic Species" (NPS); 9 am - 4 pm "Fire & Burning" (NPS); 9 am - 1 pm "Bugs in the Forest" (SC Forestry Commission); and 9 am - 4 pm "Nature Origami" (Park Volunteer).
