I'm new to the world of duck hunting, I just purchased a primos P.H.A.T. Lady single reed duck call. It doesn't sound as good as I thought it should I was wondering if any one had one and what they thought of it?
(Or it could be I'm new at this!) :help:

make sure you're not blowing the call......exhale through the call.....I tried this call once...it screams at the top end, but I had a hard time getting the mid range stuff out of it...this is typical with calls driven by the contest calling.......practice exhaling thru it...much like a quarterback calling signals.......I have a short sound clip at kdcalls.com....you can listen and try to imitate that sound....it wasn't my best...but considering it's recorded in my basement and with a computer.....at least it gives you a starting point

Go to this web page:

http://www.pureduck.com/cd.html

and order Keith Allen's instructional CD. It is hands down the best I've heard, and I've been through a LOT of them. I dedicated this past year to learning how to blow a single reed call and that effort was nothing but a HUGE frustration until I got that CD. Keith is plain spoken enough to make the material easy to understand, yet he is technical enough to make you understand exactly what you need to do in order to sound like a duck. That gets lost in a lot of calling instructional material. They teach you how to quack, then how to do a greeting call, then a hail call, then feeding calls. Ducks make two different TYPES of sounds. They quack and they make chatter. It is that simple. Get Keith's CD and learn how to QUACK, then take it from there.

Just my opinion...

Oh, I forgot...

I'd be willing to bet my dog that the problem ain't with the call.

Me too.
It takes alot of practice to make a duck call sound good. I was just trying out the PHAT Lady at walmart. It worked okay, but you said you were new and may not have the basics down. I practice minimum of 3 hours a week. I just bought a Mick Lacy Single reed yestersay and have already blown it for a couple hours. Keep practicing and it should get better.
