Hey boys, I've had the same calls for a good 5 years or so now so I figured I'm about due. Granted I admit absolutely nothing is wrong with my lanyard, but if I was here to save money and not buy unnecessary gear I would've quit a long time ago. Right now I am equipped with the RNT MVP, and a Zink double reed (Cannot remember the name). I'd love to try new things out, I love how much range the MVP has, any ideas?

I second the CWF, I love mine. Also look into Ducklander, I have a sinner and Con HC, both great calls. On my list of calls to buy is Ducklander Loud Timber HC, Pacific Joker and 737 Chief.

What are you hoping a new call will do?

(My CWF changed tone depending on toneboard orientation when I ran it, which was a deal breaker. They don't do that to everyone, but I've only had that issue with a couple of the scores of other calls I've run and know my CFW experience wasn't unique to me.)

Rick has been hearing my current love afair with cut-downs on another forum. So, I may as well put a plug in for them here.

I have ran conventional calls for the most part of my duck hunting career. Was introduced to cut downs this past season and saw how they worked for ducks around here, and was hooked. They just flat kill. However, I will admit, they do not work everywhere, but, where I hunted this past year, they were awesome.

Rick has me interested in the mvp as he talks highly of them. I also want to try the ccc snub nose. Only going by a sound profile, they sound really good to me. However, what sounds good to me does not always work on ducks.

Aside from getting louder than most J-frames, a MVP is about as different from the cutdowns I've owned as a call can be. Were they cars, the MVP would be a Formula 1 and the cutdowns top fuel dragsters.

I'm currently carrying one of Lares' new Magnum Hens around. It's capable of very loud, authoritative sound I think worth giving a go on game but its handling has been a disappointment to date. Not as limited as cutdowns in that regard, but can't begin to hang with a MVP in my hands (yet?). Will have to wait until the big ducks return to see what they think, and I may like driving it better by then, too. Won't know if I don't give it a go...

Last season was my first. Bought a bunch of calls. Practiced my calling for 10 months. Out of all the calls I bought, two worked the best for me. A very old Thomas Standard that I got from my Dad, and a Tim Grounds D Overhauler. I also had a little luck with a JJ Lares A5. Some others, which I thought sounded better to my ear; didn't turn a duck for me. Not sure what I'm gonna try this season. Might swap out a call, maybe two; but not gonna change too much. Just practice more and put more work in.
