I have a new 8 month old lab. I have had him for two weeks now. He was already obeidence trained when I got him and he will retrieve to hand. My question is he doesn't realy act that he is having fun when he retrieves. He half runs out to the dummy and then walks back to me. Any input would be great.
Thanks

Hey bri131 - he may not be excited about retreiving.

The easy thing to tell you is to get the dog all jazzed up before you toss a bumper and give heavy praise in return. Keep retreiving short and build his desire. Use some live/dead birds as motivation. Make it fun fo him!

The questions that came to mind reading your post were (which could have bearing on a response):

* Who had the dog to 8 months and why do you have it now
* How was the OB training completed
* Has force been used
* Is the dog otherwise energetic
* By delivery to hand do you mean finished or it just brings it back
* Does the dog get excited when the bumper comes out

I guess overall just a little more background. An 8 month old dog should be a bundle of get-up-n-go - does he just seem disincented on retrieving?

I could be wrong, but it sounds like this pup has been over pressured to perform.
Like HNTFSH and GHD said,,, more info needed.
