Hey guys. Getting back into the duck hunting game. Was big into it in high school and some in college a few years ago but have been on a hiatus. Looking to get a new shotgun. I still have my SBE2 in 12 ga but I’m looking to go with a 20 this time around. Are 20s even a good option? I’m not particularly married to any brand just want something good that I’ll enjoy shooting. Thanks in advance!

Why do you want a 20 gauge? Why not get back into duck hunting for a season or 2 and then assess your gun needs/wants?

I agree with the above, unless you just want another gun. If you find yourself stretching 12ga payloads, a 20 won't help.

I favor guns that feel alive when brought to bear, like extensions of myself, and after years of hunting with relative clubs and 2x4s. I was so smitten by a then HK imported SBE that I also bought a 20ga Montefeltro just for the lively feel of it, even though I felt no need of another 20. By 15 or so seasons ago, that Montefeltro 20 I'd purchased just for fun had evolved into my quite literally every open day duck, and sometimes goose, gun. So I plainly see a 20ga as a fine option - for me and other reasonably decent shots not anxious to see how far we can hit a duck.
