Hello all,
I am appearantly new to this post, and new to duck hunting. I have recently went out with a friend and tried to shoot some ducks. Key word here is tried. We were up north of Everette by Comano Island. I am not sure exactly where as I am new to this area. I am stationed on Ft. Lewis and I live in Puyallup. Would anyone be so kind as to get me going in the right direction on where to go for the kill. I did hit a couple on the last hunt, and I have the fever. I was looking at hunting on Fort Lewis, and may try that next year, but any info would be great. I really do not want to drive too far i.e. North of Everette. Thanks for your time folks.

I'm new to the area also. I live in Poulsbo (Navy). I've heard that Ft Lewis has some good hunting. It's too late for me this year, but I'd like to look into it for next year. Good luck with finding a spot. Let me know what you find out about Ft Lewis...maybe we could hook up for a hunt.

You guys down south should hit Nisqually. I live up North so I don't get down there much but there are probably guys posting here that do. I understand that it can be pretty good.

I'm new here as well. I never thought I'd say this but It's a good thing you are on the "wetside". Eastern Washington has been dismal for ducks so far this year. With corn complexes and the warm weather. My buddy and I went to the potholes and it was 48 degrees in Vantage at 9:45am! Saw less than 20 ducks all day at the job corps dike, bizarre. Sounds like 98ram is doing okay though. I don't hunt down by the 3 towns much, lived there for a long time.

Ducking, I'm not sure of the exit but it would be the first exit North of Hawks Prarrie, where the Casino is. There is a WDFW site there west side of I5. Looks like alot of ground I just am not familiar enough to tell you exactly. We do have January yet to go so hopefuly you can check it out and let the rest of us know how it is.

Yeah I live in bremerton (Navy) and I went down to Silver Lake the past 2 weekends and didnt get anything. But theres a wild life refuge called scrater creek just south of Olympia that I want to check out. I also go to some places up here in the hood canal but its hit or miss up here with the tides.

Hello MR. And Welcome Aboard!

I live up here in Silverdale and have lived in Kitsap County My whole life. Let me give you some REALLY good free advice....... There are 2 lakes on FT. LEwis that ONLY active duty military personnel have access to (not I) and the puddle duck hunting can be really good from what I hear. A friend of mine hunted one of these lakes 2 years ago and in mid December he shot a few mallards and some other nice puddlers but you have to get there early and all I remember about the lake he hunted is that it is "partially" grown over with cattails on one end of the lake. That end is where the ducks wanted to be.

Good Luck!

If you ever want to Slay some limits of divers on Hood Canal Just let me know! You will have to ride in my truck blind folded though sorry... :(

The lake thats mosty grown over with cattails is called Johnsons Marsh but as far as this year has gone it's been hit or miss over there because there is a no hunt side of the marsh and the ducks know about it so they hide out there. Other than that hunting on N. Fort at the Sqaw. which is the lake S. of American lake is good for going after Buffulo heads, Scalups, and some other divers and then the occasional lost group of geese that didn't end up heading for the soccor fields but then again hunting on Weds. works out pretty good cause of everyone doing PT and rousting the geese off of the parade fields.

The reason you didn't shoot anything in Camano Island is you need practice in actually hitting a mark. I thought they might teach you that in the military...so I guess I want my tax dollars back...

Just kidding big guy...can't wait for you and I to try Nisqually.

WOW!
Well, I checked out sequalichew yesterday and was amazed, I actually scouted a lot of areas here on post. I saw a lot of ducks. I went to the adventure center and will be hunting with raiderbrad on post here shortly. They showed me the no hunt areas, so we will have to watch it. Thanks for all of the info. Hammer, I can ride blind folded only if my buddy can go with. It's a group deal. If your spot is good to go, then I can get you on post for some shootin here. The only difference is my spots are top secret. If you tell anyone, you die...lol! Thanks folks. And Brad, You been duck hunting longer than I, and you still only got one bufflehead! How does that work out? Just kidding! We are gonna slay them!

But you see I always get a limit at the Sqaw. The best way to hunt it is either on Kayak or get up to damn early. I perfer the 1st. But now the real question is this today while out on the lake I 4 ducks that I have no Idea what are along with 3 Buffs. But for the one's that I have no Idea about they are a solid brown duck with a jet black bill that is the same shape as a blue bill but alittle wider the head is the only area where there is a little bit of differance and that is on the cheeks where the brown is alot lighter in color other than that it's just a brown duck. With the biggest feet I've ever seen on duck this size which is just smaller than a Greater Blue Bill. And looking online the only duck that comes close to it is a black duck. Any Ideas???
