If you wanna **** hunt buy a blue tick or another **** hunting breed. If you primarily duck hunt get a lab or a chessie. If you wanna hunt fur and feathers, and even do some big game tracking, get a versatile breed like the shorthair, wirehair, or some of the other versatiles.

Since you're from Wisconsin I don't think a shorthaired dog should be in your option list. I know some shorthaired dogs will hit ice cold water like a chessie, but there are many others that won't. Get a dog that is known to be able to handle cold water, because I know you get it up there in Wisconsin. I watch some Packers games.
