Evening all, I am moving to Arlington this coming Thursday. I'm on active duty in the army and have been reassigned to Ft. Myer from Ft. Bragg. I have been hunting ducks since I was 7 and I'm looking for a hunting partner to finish the season off with. I'm willing to travel a little bit and honestly won't have time to hunt too much before the season is out but I'd like to get out a couple times anyways. I don't know anything about the area and would really like some guidance since I'd rather not get in trouble with the blind laws. I don't have a boat anymore, I sold it to avoid the hassle of moving it and all the other stuff that my family and I have acquired over the years. Plus, I really wanted a new boat so now I have the perfect excuse. I have all the other gear that I need so I'm not looking to borrow anything other than some knowledge and guidance from anyone kind enough to help me out. Thank you and feel free to shoot me a message if you would like to give me a hand.

Good Evening Fellow Hunters,

I recently PCSd here from Arkansas and it's like learning the sport all over again. Don't know the area very much and didn't have time to scout since I just got here. The birds act much differently here and it's hard to judge where they are going to be at times. Any tips on calls and decoy placement would be beneficial. Not trying to ask for locations cause no hunter is going to give their spots up, however just some assistance would be amazing. Thanks y'all,

Mat

What's up James! Well I'm stationed down at Langley, however that would be awesome to get together and kill some ducks. I don't have a boat yet since I just recently PCSd, but looking forward to possibly getting one in the next year after deployment. Recently I have been lugging all my gear by Kayak and busting my ass hahah. I'm so used to being able to hunt anywhere without a boat in Arkansas, but now you need a boat for everything lol especially cause of the marsh and deep mud. But anyhow, ya man let's get together sometime next month or even January to get out there. I'm usually in the williamsburg and richmond area hunting the rivers so I'm sure we could make it a weekend trip or something like that. Let me know brother.

Hello to all! I live in the Whaleyville area of Suffolk. I have been in the VA area for about 12 years now but being active duty military I never had the chances to put in a lot of time to the scouting needed for waterfowl until now. I would hunt when I went back home to IL after all the leg work was done by family or hunting partners. I was lucky enough to get the quota on opening day of this last split at Hog Island WMA. We did ok but I can tell you I was rusty on decoy placements and reading the ducks. I have scouted parts of the Nansemond River from Brady's Marina in Suffolk, Ragged Island, and plan to look at Chuckatuck and Bennetts Creek this week. The biggest issue I have is understanding the frustrating blind laws here and what bodies of water are legal vs illegal to hunt. I have a Beavertail Phantom layout boat and I don't believe I need a floating blind license and even explained it to the game warden over the phone and he says I don't need it either so I'm hoping I'm good here. I can use all the help and guidance I can get. By that I don't mean I want to know where your spot is, just some general stuff that I will go do the foot work on. Thanks in advance and anyone looking for a hunting partner, I'm always up for it!

Hey all! My name's Drew and I've been living in Northern VA for 3 years now (originally from here but lived in NC for 7 years). I've never done any chat forums before but a buddy of mine on here suggested I join to meet some new water fowlers. I'm part of a club on the Eastern Shore (MD) that is mainly a goose lease, although we've been killing some ducks. I also hunt deer and spend the off season fly fishing for trout. No boat yet, but let me know if you want to scout some wading spots near-by -- or not so near-by, I'm happy to do whatever. Looking forward to getting to know everybody.

The Navy sent me to DC and it's been a long while since I have duck hunted due to work. As I get closer to retirement I am trying to get back into the hobbies that I loved prior to military service. I am in Herndon (Fairfax County, VA) I have some older decoys, waders, shotgun, reliable truck, and willingness to drive. I have always hunted in areas shallow enough to wade (flooded fields in NM) with a boat (ponds/lakes in NY), or corn fields for geese (NY). Looking for someone to help me get back up to speed so that I can get my kids into the sport in the next few years.

Hello All hunters. I'm 29 and just got my hunting license and live in richmond Virginia. Im looking for someone to go september goose hunting with. Im not trying to lay waste to them, but am looking to get one to try out cooking, maybe 2. I wouldn't be opposed to duck hunting either since I have the tag for it but mainly looking for goose right now. Willing to drive, pay for gas, buy lunch and willing to learn. I may be new to hunting but I am a good shot. Thanks in advance. Good luck this year fellas!

Hi!

I recently moved to the Richmond area from central pa. I'm 22 and have been duck/goose hunting for a couple years now. I have pretty much everything to do it, and I also have a boat. I'm looking for someone to hunt with who knows the area and the laws. I've mainly hunted lakes, creeks, and fields in pa so the idea of hunting a river with a blind on it every 500 yards is very foreign to me. Let me know if you wanna go hunting!

Hampton Roads Native looking to get into duck hunting. Not new to hunting, just new to waterfowl and was looking to for someone to show me the ropes. I am not anywhere near ready to try and call anything in, but I did get a set of waders and steel shot. Any insight on how to get started, or if anyone is interested in letting me tag along please let me know. Thanks for the help.

Howdy,

Another coastie living in Hampton roads. Went on one duck hunt in Michigan (Houghton Lake) when I was a kid, otherwise I did a bunch of deer and pheasant hunting as a kid back in Michigan. Then when i turned 18 I joined the service and moved a lot: hunted deer and turkey in many southern states. Got bit by the waterfowl bug January 2017 and have been going up to Chincoteage (Capt Pete's) for about a year now. Also did a Delbay snow goose hunt. I have a 12 yr old, who I like to take with me. He shot his first buck in September, 1st duck in December, Canada in January, and Snow in February.

Finding the blind rules and such here in VA a bit confusing, and as a coastie I surely want to do things 'right' and have good relations with my fellow hunters.

I'll be retiring in a year and hope to spend more time afield!

Hey y'all, just moved to Norfolk last month and have been having trouble finding info about hunting out here. I just recently got into duck hunting and love it. I was hoping to find an outfitter or someone out here to go after primarily wood ducks. If anybody has any recommendations on outfitters or how to go about that I'd love to get some this year!

Thanks

Hello,

Not new to VA or duck hunting, but looking to really get into duck hunting now that we have a decent spot on private land. I've been duck hunting a couple times a season over the past 5 years or so, but we haven't been too successful.

A beaver has damned up some of our land and all kinds of woodies roosting in there...you'll see me on here looking for advice.

Thanks,
