i agree ducks unlimited is really messing us up.
Again with this? You have one crappy day, and you have to blame someone. Sure, most not be your calling  Try blaming something else. Every time one of you guys get a little cry like this I like to donate an extra fiver.
DU has screwed up duck hunting. They do more damage than good. And it's really pathetic that they team up with the government to buy private land and keep honest working people from buying it.
I don't know where you got your info LANDN, but the ducks aren't in Arkansas.
The duck haven't made it down this far yet, we're still kill'n local mallards, very call shy and decoy shy. Blame it on who you want to but if we don't get any really cold weather or snow up north you can mark it off as another sh!tty season.
it's all about the weather. without cold, snowy weather the birds aren't leaving. they don't migrate jut to be migrating, they head south when thier water freezes up and their food is covered up with a good layer of snow. Global Warming, it's true. think about when you were a kid, we had tons of snow and bitter cold weather. we're lucky to get one 6" snow now.
Don't you know it's all a conspiracy?!?! The ducks are in on it too! 8)
Du sux has got it right. I have done research in that department and you don't have to get into it very far to get that fact. DU at one time posted all the duck stop areas on their web site, so I personally called to find out how many were on the Mississippi Flyway. Upon my request, I was told that I would have to call the Federal Wildlife agency in Virginia to get the answer to my question. I did, several times, but was never contacted back with any info. Go figure? If you have been to these areas, there is about a 90% chance you would have seen birds and plenty of them. I have watched them leave in the morning, fly to a protected feeding area during the day, then fly right back to a protected area to roost. Then you have insurance crops,(which are outlawed for hunting by the Feds I might add), that cannot be hunted or disturbed for that matter, even though they are on a very expensive hunting leases with blinds in these fields. This incorporated with the weather all adds up.

Sorry guys but DU is one of the best things that has ever happened for waterfowl and many other animals. If it were not for DU there would not be the number of ducks around as there is now. Restoring wetland is the best thing that they do. They buy land to restore it or keep it a ducky place.

DU Sux- what is the problem with DU from buying land with the gov because it is a very big possibility that if another farmer buys that land that it will be drained and that will lead to less ducks

Having areas that you can not hunt are good too. The birds do need areas where they will not be bothered

I just do not under stand why some of you guys think that DU is a bad thing.
I'm a long time member of DU for Dumping Corn Up North - also known as shortstopping!

They're not keeping farmers from buying it in most cases, they're keeping hunters from buying it. Last minute bids with the DU's pocketbook to buy the land is very dishonest if you ask me. Gunner nailed it. If the govt keeps these safe zones from being hunted every now and then, the ducks will know exactly where to go and where not to go. We hunt right by a federal WMA and the ducks have just flown over us the last few years to set where they know it's safe. Open them up!
all's I've seen from ducks unlimited is good things, they just bought a bunch of land here in washington by where I live, part of an old rock quarry and a bunch of flooded fields, nobody used to be able to hunt it, now we can, there's even a dissabled blind, more than enough room for how many people go out there,
WOW... As i was looking through the forums, i came upon this arguement, unfortunately a little late, but i have a question for those who oppose DU... What are you guys putting towards the advancement of waterfowl marshes and other important waterfowl areas?? It sounds like to me that you are all just sour because the ducks decided to pass by your flyway this year. But, of course, its DU's fault for telling the ducks to pass you by. Right??? I know im not even in the mississippi flyway, but this subject really got my attention. So, when you decide to do more than DU has done for duck hunting, THATS when you can complain
Illinois-Ducker, I know the centeral part of the state pretty well, where are you from??? DU hasn't down much in that area at all!!!!! Let me know!
Ducks unlimited when it started was good but they have become more of joke as they go along they are all about name recognition. They have become to commercial and have just become more of a profit organization. I will no longer stay involved with them they have lost sight of there conservation history. If you guys want to join a good organization i recommend delta waterfowl
I think you guys are being a little rediculous. They raise millions of dollars a year to maintain duck habitat all over the place. I dont care who you are, DU has improve the duck hunting in the U.S.
I agree, DU has done a lot of good, and continues to put a lot of money into Duck habitat. As a company grows that large, you can't expect it to not employ some people who make money, they are a HUGE company...

I like Delta also though, why can't you appreciate both? Both are doing good things IMO...
I sure would hate to see where we would be at for habitat/biology knowledge if it were not for DU over the last 70 years

That being said, I too have seen a shift in who they are targetting to solicite funds from. Basically it used to be all hunters supporting DU, but they are targetting non hunters now. The problem is that the hunters who have been the back bone of DU are ticked as some of the projects DU is doing is off limits to hunting. The hunters are a minority now in the US, and the non hunters the vast majority, and the antihunters a small minority. So DU is targetting the non hunters to substanially raise more $ each year-a good and bad kind of thing. Good because wetland and grasslands are being saved/restored; bad because now the nonhunters have a voice in how the $ should be spent which irratates some of the DU hunters.

Am I a member of DU? Yes and a DU CA member too. And am a MWA member as well as a DW member. I have served on 3 of the 4 orgs banquet committees over the years (not on DU CA-for logistical reasons-like they are 400 miles away... hhehehhee) Seems to me they all are basically good Orgs and that you should be a member too. Basic memberships for the 4 run $125 a year. Some say that is a lot of $, is it? If you make $25,000 a year that is only 1/2 of 1% of your wages, are not these Orgs worth that much to ensure continued duck flights and hunter rights to continue you being able to hunt as well as future generations? I think so, that is why I give them 3 to 4% of my income each year. And I'm a working stiff and drive an old S-10, but I feel it is important to give financially as well give of my time to them. Surely some of you can do the same? Heck many churches say you should give 10% to the church of your choosing, is not the above Orgs worth at least 1% of your income? And they are all nonprofits, so what you give is tax deductable too on your taxes.

BTW, their website addys are listed on the Conservation forum here at DHC.

Not saying Ducks unlimited doesnt do good just saying they have done a lot more good in the past. I just think they are getting away from what there original statement they set forth. I just believe it has gotten to commercial for me. I know they still do good for the waterfowl population and restoration. I still support both DU and Delta with contributions just think that Delta has done a better job of staying away from commericialism. Anyone who makes efforts as these two groups do to help keep hunting thriving I will always support as much as i can and will continue to do so i was just giving my opinion as to which group i preferred today.
