I've been hunting close to 40 days a season around here for the last 5 years and have traveled from Crane Lake to Cotton and every stupid lake, river, stream, res., and beaver pond in between. I seem to have maybe one or two really great hunts a year. Usually, I feel lucky if I even see 10 or 12 ducks on a trip let alone get some shooting. There's tons of wild rice this year and still no ducks. I've read about the steady westward migration of ducks out of this flyway but this is ridiculous. Can anyone out there report consistently good hunting in this area? I'm starting to loose hope. A duck a day on average just doesn't cut it - my dog is getting very bored.

Well, first of all, you haven't hunted everything up there. Nett Lake, which is on the reservation is probably one of the best places for waterfowl in the state...however, you have to pay to hunt. The Rat Root River is probably getting really good right about now...granted, the migration is a bit later this year, but you shouldn't have any trouble finding ducks up there. I have buddies that hunt that area, and they have seen the best duck hunting they have seen in years...shot widgeon on opening weekend, and they never get widgeon....so, your assessment of the area isn't very good...
