NRA Bashing

Why do so many people here think that the NRA is not a worthwhile organization? I have read more negative comments about the NRA in recent weeks on this sight than I ever heard in my life. Are there instances where gun owners object to their stance? Or is this political because the NRA generally supports republicans? Republicans generallyare stronger on that issue than democrats. Shouldn't they support people with the most pro gun backgrounds? What other reasons are there? any specifics?

I don't think there are that many hunters who don't like the NRA. It may seem that way though, because the few who do will tend to repeat themselves over and over, and do it on many threads.

Make a list of them and update it, then you know where they're coming from each time you see their name pop up.

For the rest of us thinking hunters who love FREEDOM, and are real Americans, we'll keep on supporting the NRA and ensuring that we retain our rights RECOGNIZED (not granted) in the U.S. Constitution.

The NRA is the most important organization to belong to for those who love FREEDOM. It is the largest organization, comprised of more than 4 million members, that is a bulwark against the evil forces that would make slaves of the population.

Be an NRA Member.

Lead has been banned for a while in the California Condor region, but that is a small area.
Small area? It's a HUGE area.

It hasn't taken effect yet, but it is not a small area, and this restriction wasn't needed to protect the condors anyway.

I think the point that needs to be made here is that everyone has their own opinions and nobody in here is going to change our minds. You can fuss, fight, and quabble all you want, but in the end we are all stuborn hunters who's minds won't be changed.
Absolutely incorrect. The Liberal mindset (and I use "mind" loosely) present in the schools, media, and popular culture is slowly changing the minds of the children who've grown up under that influence. The "hunters" discussing good gun restrictions on this forum are perfect examples of that.

There should be very few restrictions on the Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms. That freedom makes us Citizens in a Free country. Without it, we become subjects susceptible to the whims of a corrupt government. There are multiple examples of this throughout history, especially in the last century.

This idea that we are going to lose our guns is ridiculous, we (Americans) are not about to lose our right to bear arms.
Where can you bear your arms? We have in fact have a greatly diminsioned right to bear arms. Most of the high crime areas it is virtually illegal to bear arms. This is pretty well gone. What we are fighting over is pretty much the right to keep arms.

It's the right to keep and bear arms that shall not be infringed.

Locked in a gun safe is not bearing. I get it that a lot of people don't like the law as written, but that is what it is and there is a procedure to change it. We are superceding that procedure by judicial fiat. That is really the biggest danger we face. It doesn't matter what was ratified in the constitution or enacted into law. It's what a few political appointees decide the law really means. This is my biggest bitch in this whole debate. You may think the law is stupid, but it is what it is and there is a prescribed procedure for changing it. Let's use that and not let the political appointees determine what the law "really" says. The "real" meaning of the constitution is one reason the Presidential election is so important. We all know that laws that have already been enacted don't mean what they say, but what one or two Supreme Court Justices decide that they say.

Some of you may disagree, but the NRA has a simple position. The law is what it is as it was enacted in the Bill of Rights. Not exactly a radical position.
Hear, hear, SpinnerMan!

Tom I agree with you. But now that we're all adults no one is changing our minds. We won't change any captainduckheads or wackemstackem's (not trying to call anyone out, just using you as examples) opinion any more than they will change your's or my opinion. Childrens' minds are easily manipulated, but once you reach adulthood you get to be stubborn as an ox.
The adults who think gun registration is okay need to do some more research. Their mindsets were formed under conditions adverse to the truth. Their own research will allow them to really consider the facts. When they ACTUALLY CONSIDER the facts, they will change their minds.

First, they should join the NRA . Next, review the materials and the history of gun ownership in the United States and the rest of the world. The NRA is a good organization that will provide those facts.

I knew it was a matter of time before Tom* piped up and started stirring the crap. Tom* don't kid yourself or anyone else. If the Government of the United States decided to take away all private gun ownership, and they turned into pure tyrants you and your NRA buddies wouldn't have the balls to ever raise up your firearms in defense of your homes and ways of life. So don't hide behind those ideals as a reason for supporting the Freedom to bear arms. You say guns are what insure our freedom from an oppressive government? That is absolute crap. Believe me the USA doesn't care if you have your grandaddys shotgun in your closet, Hell the USA doesn't even care if you have the latest and greatest of tactacle weapons in your closet. If they want to start infringing on your freedoms, and violating your civil rights they sure as hell will, and you and your duck gun won't stop them. When the USA starts feeling threatened by gun ownership, they react, and said threat always loses. Look at Ruby Ridge, Look at the Branch Davidians in Waco Texas. Those boys got a solid ass kicking and why? Because they were stock piling arms that the USA viewed as a threat to the well being of the government. Where were those crazy, money grubbing, corrupt-as-hell, NRA, gun nuts when that was going down? They sure as hell weren't standing in front of the government waving a copy of the Constitution. No Tom* you and your eloquent ways of speaking, and your "Facts", and "statistics" are not going to convince me to join the NRA, so that they can send me their propoganda and I can get all nervous about losing my guns. Don't equate being an NRA member with being a patriotic American, you know nothing of my patriotism. You don't know about the sacrifices that my family and myself have given to this beautiful country. And you know nothing of the pride that swells in my chest when I hear the Star Spangled Banner. You know about stirring the crap and causing fights and you love to see that go on, and you love the opportunity to show off your education. I'm glad that you have that kind of time on your hands, I really am, someone needs to fill that niche.
Yo mama.

There is no nationwide or even state (that I know of) firearm registration in the US, thanks to the NRA who has lead the way in striking down bills and laws that would try to do so. If you need proof about registration leading to confiscation just look at England and Australia.

Not firearms, but firearm owners:

http://www.isp.state.il.us/media/docdet ... m?DocID=38

Yes the NRA is Non profit.

Yes the NRA did offer me firearm education as a youth member. It actually developed the the bases for state hunter safety classes in the late 50's and taught over 17 million people. They also teach close to 50,000 kids a year their YHEC (youth hunter education challenge) as well as teaching over 1 million children a year ( over 21 million total) their firearm accident prevention program Eddie Eagle. They have also trained over 50,000 firearm instructors nationwide who in turn teach many more thousands of people NRA's safety courses. And believe it or not have trained over 50,000 law enforcement instructors to go back and teach their own officers the best and latest in firearms tactics and ways to keep themselves alive on the streets, maybe even in long island. Oh they are also the leader in educating and bringing women into the shooting sports with programs like women on target.

I don't want to believe that you are racist but no matter how you look at it that statement sounds and comes across as racist.

I agree that everyone should have their own opinion, that's why this county is great. However everyone owes it to themselves and our future generations to make an educated decision, and if you want to believe the whole "it will never happen here" so be it. However in just one years time we could see drastic changes in this country that can and will effect gun owners and hunter alike. The DC vs. Heller court case will set the new precedent in this country concerning private firearm ownership no matter which way it goes good or bad. This along with the upcoming elections to potentially put anti-gun politicians in office are all very real. If you think that Obama and devil Nancy Pelosi wont find time in their 4 years to try and make new laws and restriction Ill tell you are wrong. I personally want to keep my handguns, semi-auto shotguns, and my AR-15 so I will support the NRA as long as I have to.
wvlippo,

A person can not in a normal manner possess an AR-15 or several other arbitrarily singled out weapons in California. That, and the little clarifications I added regarding Illinois are the only things I have to add to your excellent exposition.

Thank you.

What city would that be? Is it on Long Island?
It's important to look at every new situation with fresh eyes. Consider all points of view. Chase it down to the end. If you find one person or side who is lying, remember it. Judge that source based on their proven credibility.

Under the same scrutiny, when you find someone who has told the truth, remember it. Judge that source on it's credibility.

Is it safe to say you hunt alone most of the time.
I'm identifying what you wrote as a lie. It's not personal.

You wrote: "But Im not gonna support an organization that supports the fact that ANYONE with a pulse can buy a gun."

First off, it's grammatically poor. Is it a fact that anyone with a pulse can buy a gun? No.

If it were, would the NRA support anyone with a pulse being able to buy a gun? No.

Next point: When you write AK, do you mean (as is commonly meant) an AK-47?

Regardin the NRA supporter, detractor, or observer thread; if you have a strong belief about the NRA, stand up and put your name (or "wackemstackem") behind it.

I did.

Peace.

Tom, you need to get a life, or attempt to engage your brain. Are you a paid NRA attack dog?

Wackenstackem is entitled to his opinions and you really need to upgrade your level of discourse and stick to the issues being discussed, not go on some silly personal vendetta.

BTW: What is the value of attempting to get a tally of those who support vs those who don't fully support the NRA an every issue? What statistical value, relevance, or insight would that demonsttrate?

REMEMBER: A BRAIN IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE.
captainduckhead, wackemstackem, dudejcb,

Can I put you down as NRA opposers?

Thanks.

We'll see what the NRA position will be. It's a more general question that how you mistakenly restated it. Right now they're waiting on the USF&WS response.

Really - you may not subscribe to ALL of an organizations philosophy but what alternative do you have? If you give them an inch, they will take a mile.

Usually the antis will attack a segment that has limited opposition, then move on to another. Divide and conquer tactics. Pretty soon (w/o the NRA) we'd all wonder where our rights went. After guns, it would be knives, then bows, then fishing rods.......

I am a proud, life member of the NRA. I'm not a criminal. I do not lie, cheat or steal. My hunting lab and I eat meat !
caglatz,

Thank you for all you've done for this country. It is significant, and you, I, and many others know and appreciate it.
