Sorry for the spelling. I am usually in controll but I am pretty drunk.

I went to the dentist today. The lady that did the teeth cleaning was pretty freaked out and so was the dentist. They have referred me to a cancer specalist because there is some "funny" tissue growth in my mouth. I have been chewing for about 5 years. I can honestly say that I am pretty scared of the out come. I am 27 years old and always thought that this would never happen to me. But it definatly put it in perpective when I had to call my mother and tell my wife what was going on. I am in tears at this point and dont know what I am susposed to do. I dont know a definate answer. If it comes back bad I could lose out on so much, I wouldnt even know what to do. One of my goal was to win first place in a competition call, maybe make it to worlds. That would be all lost if I do have cancer. What am I supose to do? Even if its nothing its still scary as hell. I am to young to die and too young to give up calling ducks. Its not really worth risking any of it. What is my wife suposed to do? What am I suposed to do with my dog? He lives to retrieve my ducks? Should I have a child that does not know his father? This is all things that go thru a guys mind in my position. I am not looking for sypathly but just to make the realization to the guys out there that think it will never happen to them.

Sorry to hear that man, my girlfriend is going to dental school to become a dentist and she was just explaining to me the other day what was actually in chewing tobacco. Im sure if more people knew what they were putting in their mouths they would quit. Either way good luck man, I hope it all turns out ok!!

Hey man, I'm pulling for you. You wouldn't believe how many people out there are willing to go an extra few miles to help you and your family out. If the diagnosis is as you fear, have faith that they caught it early and can treat it. Technology is incredible. If it comes back false, breathe easy and take it as a stern warning. Like you, I need to quit chewing. That multi-billion dollar industry has me by the nads. As I said, keep the faith and DON'T QUIT on everybody now. It's too early to quit; it's always too early. Some say the pesimist is always rewarded, whether he be pleasantly surprised or right all the time. Don't be that guy. You made a poor decision to begin chewing. Now it's time to step up and make the biggest decision of your life...to keep on living it. My prayers are with you man.

Sorry to hear about this....when was the last time you were at the dentist? If it was 6 months ago, and it was not there, you probably caught it in time to remove it or get it under control. Don't jump to any conclusions just yet...wait for the tests, get to a specialist and move on from there....we have come a long way in the treatment of cancer...I know it's scary, but take it one step at a time...if you don't, it will overwelm you....keep us posted, I hope its good news.

KC,

I am sure everything will be ok. This is just a "wake up" call to quit chewing. You are probably putting the cart before the horse per sey. I know it is hard, but try not to think about it until after your appointment. You will drive your self crazy thinking about possible outcomes. Let me know if you need anything.

News like that can really ruin your day. I am thirty seven and have had several friends your age as well as my mother and father go through cancer. The best advice I can give is tommorrow when you wake up no more gettin drunk no worrying or negitive thoughts, no what ifs. Get out of bed Knowing you are going to beat the **** out of this cancer if you do indeed have cancer. Never give it an inch regardless of what a doctor says or what treatment you must endure, you gotta know your going to whip it. You can and will if your willing to fight and believe. have faith in yourself and the power of those around you, If you are strong and fight, the people around you will do the same, there is power in that. You're a Duck hunter, that makes you a strong son of a bitch you'll whip it. Don't let the suck get you down, stay positive. and you'll be right as rain

The same thing happened to my uncle a couple years back, and it happended to him once before to. The first incident is what led my dad to quit chewing. It turned out both times that my uncle was fine. He's back up to his pouch of Red Man every couple hours now. It could be a good thing for you as long as you learn from it. I chew every once in awhile, and used to dip. I gave up dip real quick when I got up to the log every five days. I kind of felt like you it wasn't worth it. The money and the possible consiquences.

I'm no preacher or anything, I just think it's a neat name. You should definatly pray about it if you're a religious person and we'll all do the same for you. Hope this wasn't weird since I'm new to the site and all. I hope it all turns out good for you, and take it easy.

Probably nothing to worry about...i've seen it many times. Called "snuff dippers keratosis". Try and quit and it will usually clear right up.
However, you never know for sure until the biopsy comes back.

For your's and your family's sake, I hope it is negative. You need to realize the mistake you've made and the second chance you've been given. Cancer caused by cigarettes and chew is one that you give yourself. There are people suffering from other forms of cancer and they have no choice...you do. Regardless of the results, you need to realize the choice to chew is not only one you make for yourself, but your family. You are choosing you over your wife, mother, and everyone else. Quit NOW!

I understand your stressing right now...hence the reason you're drunk. However, as one other person said, time to give that up as well as an avenue of dealing with it. Wake up tomorrow and take control of your lifestyle. Be thankful you have the opportunity to do so.

Sorry if I come off insensitive, but the education has been there for years. I quit smoking 5 years ago at 23. Best decision I ever made for myself and more importantly, my wife and children.

I wish you the best of luck and please keep us posted!

Regards...

Mike

Take it one step at a time. First throw that can in your back pocket away and dont buy another. I chewed for 8 years and just threw the can out the window one day and that was it. Sure youll think about now and then but if you do think about your wife feedin you through a straw. Dont listen to these guys about not drinkin its cheap consoltation. There are tons of stories out there about people beating things against all odds. Decide for yourself now are you one of those people or do you roll over? Wup its ass and kill some ducks.

Wait and see what the doc says. Hopefully nothing serious, but for your family why not just quit? I know it would be hard so what. It is better to quit and not have to worry about it. Hopefully this will scare some sense in to you and you can give it up.

First let's get a tissue diagnosis.....and it sounds like it's early and could be very successfully treated.....I understand you're worried but the vast majority of the time these things turn out to be benign(not cancerous)......trust me, I know a bit about these things.....if you need any detailed advice PM me.....Dan

I dip.... and have for a long time.

Your dentist should have a Cancer test (mouth rinse solution - taste like Vinegar), that you can swish in your mouth. After you finish (60 seconds i think), they take a UV light, and can spot cancerous spots. The mouth rinse test is around $60, and usually not covered by dental insurance.

He should have given you that treatment first, to be sure..... instead of scaring the he!! out of you - with a chance it could be nothing.

Hope it turns out to be nothing..... and prayers sent.

I dip too, and believe me the medical professionals will do their best to scare the living daylights out of you. Maybe that's good, but don't take it to heart until the results are in. Per the previous post, most of those things are not cancerous and they rarely happen. My thoughts are with you, but it is for the best that no one use tobacco products of any kind. I would like to turn back the clock to when I started dipping and change all that but we can't. You'll be fine, you'll see. Stop diping for a while and drink lots of vitamin C drinks. I'd bet a 10 spot that your growth goes away.
