I know there's another thread in the shotgun forum, but not very many people visit, and I wanted to post this up since I was so happy with the results. Thanks to all the tips from the shotgun forum- this was easy and it looks great. I only regret not taking a before picture. And I wouldn't use any green next time- just stick to the brown and tan, I think, but overall I'm pleased as punch! Might not matter to the ducks, but makes me happy!

I found out the same thing the first time I did one. The green doesn't really suit my hunting area. Now I use an almost almond color high heat flat appliance paint as my base coat, spraying khaki and brown over it. Nice job on the reeds. They look good.

Thanks- makes me want to start looking for a beat up old "good" gun to rehab!

Looks good. I did the same thing last spring usuing the link I found in the shotgun forum and it's held up excellent. It really isn't that hard to do, but it is hard taking the first step. I had bought a brand new barrel for an older gun and I sand blasted it before I painted. That was pretty tough, but well worth it.

How close do you let the birds get before you shoot 'em? lol I don't think they'll notice.
Thought about painting the end of the barrel bright green and running some spinning wings through the last vent rib to see if that'll get em close enough. I'll market it as the 870 Mojo Express

that is a million dollar idea, because their are plenty of folks that would shell out for that.

Yeah, too bad Billy Mays is dead- I could see him standing in a duck blind holding my Mojo Express shouting at the top of lungs while I count the money bags rolling into my P.O. box!

Assateague, your gun looks great! I am surprised you didn't go with a cactus print instead of the reeds

I may have you do one for me in blaze orange, or maybe paint one like a barber pole. No birds here in MN to even flair this year

You should paint yours like an icicle- it'd blend right in! I lived in MN for a few years, and after watching the weather channel, I remember why I'm not there anymore! I think if you're not born into it you simply can't take that kind of cold!

Ice would be a great camo up here!

It looks like it's colder here in MN than it is in most of Alaska, and I live in "tropical Minnesota"(southern third). The last two winters now we have had stretches of many days in a row of -1 to -10. I have requested a one on one with Al Gore to get a better understanding of global warming. Apparently I need to watch the movie again :lol3:
