When duck hunting a week ago. While I was setting up 3 ducks flew over and me and my hunting buddy fired 5 shots total. I did not have ear protection in. (3 inch shells). Anyway put in the plugs and had a good day of hunting. The next day my ears where so plugged up, hurt, and where ringing. They have been ringing for the last 8 days. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Did your ears stop ringing or am I going to be hearing ringing noises the rest of my life? I know I screwed up, and hope a 20 second error will not effect the rest of my life. Please help with advice!!!!!!!

You wear Ear Plugs while hunting?
I shoot a 12 gauge 3.5 mags, Have never noticed ringing after shots, well atleast not much more then 5-10 minutes after the shots and it isn't all that bad.......I Don't wear ear plugs except for target practice!
I Want to hear what is Walking, Crawling or Flying around me!
Do you use those ear plugs you shove into the Ear canal?
If so, you might have done something to your ear Drum, 8 days of Ringing is alittle to long.

Exteneded ringing of the ears is called tinitus (sp?) I have had it for years. Of the 7 hearing ranges--I am deaf in 3 of the 7 ranges--those ranges where loud noise does the most damage. Those 3 ranges are beyond hearing aid help. 
repeated firing of guns, firecrackers, cjack hammers, etc.... all lead to this. the hearing range scales go 0 (best) to 100, at 40 hearing aids are helpfull, over 70 they not. I have them over 70 in the scores.
Short 24" barrels and ported bareels are real bad for louder noise, as well as firing into the wind. If real concerned you can consult a Dr and have your hearing checked. It is smart to wear hearing protection when ever you are shooting.

I had bad ears before I went into the Navy. I almost did not get in because of it. So the put me on a flight deck. (not kidding) Like H20 I also have tinitus. I dont hunt with hearing protection but always have it when practicing. I shot a friends .357 with out ear plugs...and after one shot my left ear is screwed forever. Since that day I have to use my right ear to use the phone. You might have a wax build-up because of the shooting. (I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV) I have been told sometimes that will happen. NOW...I do not know if that is a bunch of crap or not. But it might be something to ask the Doc.
i dont know anybody that uses hearing protection while hunting.it would be hard to hear ducks and geese at a distance. if not close too. you just have to tell your buddies to be careful not to shoot close to your ears. . i got muzzle blasted real bad awhile back. took awhile for my ear to quit hurting. but i would go see the doc if i was you also. i was told not to use q-tips in my ear tell the hurting went away because if i did rupture my ear drum. it could make it worse.

yep.......when I was younger I didn't know any better, I shot a whole 10 round mag of 22 short in an ant pile near my feet. My ears where ringing for about 2 weeks before it finally went away. It won't hit you now, but its possible to get long term damage.
But like the other guys said.......I hunt snows down in south texas. A regular hunting party consists of about 6-8 guys, all lined up in the deks. We all use 12g with BB 3 in mags.......I have not had, or know anyone that has had hearing damage from waterfowl hunting. As long as your not shooting in a confind area like a shooting range, I would't worry about plugs.
