Does anyone know why porta johns in WA are called honey buckets? That just doesn't seem like a very appropriate name to me. I thought that this might be the right forum to ask since it's called "Honey Hole." HA

The old septic wagons where called Honey Wagons as they did not was say S**t Wagon. It might have developed from there, possibly.

Saw this mentioned in the old Firefox books, mountain folks used to use buckets of "slop" to pinpoint a honey bee nest in the woods so they could rob the honey from them. would use two buckets about 75 -100 yards apart and once the bees found them, they would make a flight line back and forth that was easy to follow.

all of your thoughts make sense but the real answer to why people call them Honey buckets is because one of the main companies that distributes them in the northwest is actually called "Honey Bucket". so when people see a portable Sh*% house they just call it a honey bucket even if its owned by another company. Kinda like how everyone calls adjustable wrenches "Crescent Wrenches" even though crescent is just a popular company or make, and not a type of wrench.
