Heck you always need to shoot high thats why I said 250. Just depends on what and who you want to do it but there are plenty out there that cost that much. :thumbsup:

I've stated in the past, that if you found a guy willing to do it for 100 bucks, stay away from that. You will often get what you pay for! I can't stress enough how much time goes into a duck mount. Personally I charge a "good friend" 100 dollars. The artificial head alone is 20 dollars, not to mention the body form, wire, caulk etc. and most importantantly, time. The guy charging 80 bucks, after parts, is only making 10 bucks an hour! I hope he is a friend, I hope he does this as a hobby, and I hope most importantly, you have checked out his quality! Maybe you've gotten lucky and have hit all three! Wings cupped, Pete.

it costs 190 were i am gonna get mine mounted at. the guys work looks good. i can't imagine a guy doing it for less than 100. when i was younger i got a javalina done for $99 and later on i got one done by a "taxidermist" for $260. o-boy is there a difference. i didn't know the first one was so bad till i seen the second one. i still like the first one, but it looks like i did it. you get what you pay for. make sure he has a good reputation in the community too.

i agree you get what you pay for..the best thing you can do is go in the shop you are going to do business with and look at the mounts waiting to be picked up..a reputable shop will have all waiting mounts in the open for u to see..if they have a show room full of pieces he mounted for display only and customer pieces in a different room you probably wont get the qualaty you see..we charge 150.00 for our ducks and our a little cheep in this area but we do allot of ducks..like i said most important thing is look at the shop you are going to dont just call get a price and go drop it off

we have had it done for cheap. they dont look to bad but definately not great quality like the 250 for a mount. but 250 for a mount is to high for me and i think the more reputable taxidermists here are around 250.

all of the advice here is good stuff from different perspectives. all you have to remeber is there are duck stuffers, taxidermists, and artists. my person doses not use aritficial heads and bides as that runs into money. on the other hand he is an artist so he doesn't have any problem doing a great job at less expense.

we got a local guy here in central SC doing a pair of mallards for me. $150 a pop and he does incredible work. the only draw back is the guy is so good, the wait time is anywhere from 8-12 months. if you have patience, this guy is the only game in town! i'll post a pic when i get them back.

One of my best friends has a local business, 10 years now, and he gets $170 for ducks and he does GREAT work. Spent many hours in his shop watching how those guys do that stuff....it's WORK! I am a FIRM believer in that you pay for what you get. If someone out there says they can mount a duck, correctly, and put in ALL the time it actually takes to propperly clean the bird for $50-$60.....I would want to see HOW he does it! I've personlly seen work that cost that cheap, it is CRAP! Ever wander why a bird mount smells or has "oil" running down the legs??????

Just found a guy near me that has been mounting animals for years and he charges $25 for ducks and $50 fer geese!
And let me tell you, they are the MOST DISGUSTING things I've ever seen. I'm sorry to talk about someones work, but you gotta see them. There is actually a 2-3 inch wide oily streak all down the belly to the legs that is dripping fat! I found out about this guy because a customer came into my friends shop and asked about his mount at the other guys shop. The other guy threw this mans wood duck in the trash! He said it split into three pieces when he tried to put it on the form, so he threw it away and sorry, maybe next time!
I've also been told that his deer mounts last a maximum of 1 year before someone else has to try and save them. This is after the ears have rotted off. He doesn't turn the ears inside out and clean them all out.
One more reason to SHOP around, you pay for what you get!

Taxidermy work is definitely something that cost some money if you want it to look good. I have had two deer mounted each of them by different guys, but both cost around $425. The first guy did great work, but he just took forever because he was so good. The other guy is going to get the rest of my business because he does great work and didn't take so long.
